Should I apply for a loan?

Hi me and boyf are thinking about getting a small loan to buy a car. My boyf earns around £18500 but has missed a few credit card repayments over the years, I have no idea what his credit score is.

I only work part-time so only earn £15000, my credit score is 803 which experian class as fair although I have not missed a payment for atleaset 2 years, I think it is low because I have transferred my credit card balance to 0% twice in 2006, last time switching in November 2006.

My question is this, 1.)would the application for a loan (only looking for about £2800) be strengthend with a joint application despite my boyfs inability to pay his credit card on time (despite my constant nagging!!). 2) should he apply on his own coz he earns more, or should I apply for the loan given that I probably have the best credit rating (i think!) but the lowest income.

I owe aprox £2891 on credit card and My boyf owes £1900 on credit card.

Am I just worrying about nothing, any comments welcomed.

Thanks Guys

Beth

  • if it's a car for you both get a joint loan, what will happen to the debt otherwise if / when you split up ?

If the car is for you, then you should get the loan.
    nothing.
  • we've been together for 10 years i'm not planning to split up anytime soon but I guess you never know what's round the corner in the journey of life!!

Guess it makes more sense to do a joint application I was just more worried about his credit history.

    Thanks for advice.
