If a CSA officer decides to lie, then he commits fraud, and any form of evidence can be considered by the CPS when building a case against a suspect.

The data protection act is all about good practice by private entities, the DWP is a government agency and therefore exempt.

It was my understanding that privacy laws only allow for recording when there is a statement to the fact that a recording is being made, i have been advised against recording meetings with management in the workplace for that very reason, and by union solicitors...! However, as far as doing it is concerned, i do anyway, and the only way i could use them, would be if in any pursuant legal action against the company the manager perjured himself under oath then it would be admissible to prove that perjury, but that would be all.

Which is why when i was in the UK, i had a notice clearly visible inside my front door that cctv was recording. Then anyone entering would be subject to that recording having taken place. And could not say that had not been informed, being that the front door camera clearly showed the notice.
