Starbucks card - is it worth it ?

I occasionally buy coffees in my local Starbucks and was wondering whether the discounts/offers that you are supposed to get with the Starbucks card are worthwhile ?
If not then I wouldn't bother as I don't see why I should give them my money up front, I'd rather pay as I use it.
