How warm do you like your house?

It's got a bit nippier this last week or so, cool enough to get me thinking about when to switch the heating on and what temp I'll be setting the thermostat to. As I'm keen to both be a little greener this year and also save a little money (!) I was planning to try and set it a little lower than last year (I think I had it at around 22 last year)
I've done what I can given the limitations of the property (mid terrace) regarding insulation and switching to lower energy tarriffs so hope to be saving as much as possible that way. I'll also be encouraging the family to wear a jumper rather than dress as if they were on the beach in Bermuda:D - only problem is that I seem to be the only one with any cold tolerence built-in , the rest of them all being hothouse flowers bless 'em! - there may be trouble ahead ...
Anyway, it's made me a little curious as to what other people on here have set their thermostats to... (poll in deg. C)

Our log burner regularly gets our main room, combined lounge/diner/kitchen up to 25 degrees or so. Central heating is set at 20 and only programmed to kick in between 6 and 8 am and 8 to 10 pm.

Twas ever thus...
One thing I'd like to get around to when the money permits is to get individual thermostats on all the radiators so the two sons can set the temp to what they are comfortable with in their rooms rather than regulating the temp by means of opening the windows if too hot which is what they do at the moment (Grrrr!) At present just have one of the radio controlled thermostats in the kitchen.
Would also like to get an A rated condensor boiler installed but that'll have to wait until the lottery fairy visits. Currently have an Alpha CB24x which is only 79.2% efficient according to the Boiler efficiency database on sedbuk.com.0 -
TRV's are quite cheap and pretty easy to fit0

After lots of trial and error over the last couple of years I have set my thermostat as follows:
06:00 - 18:00 16.5 c
18:00 - 22:00 17.5 c
22:00 - 06:00 10.0 c
During that time I have replaced the boiler, installed wall/loft insulation and started to wear a jumper. The temperature is comfortable for me but if I have people round I tend to turn it up a couple of degrees.0 -
my boiler just has a dial but with no temperature markings, although i have it as low as possible, and our gas bill is usually very low (thankfully!). I always try to get to my birthday (oct 6th) before i turn the heating on.mortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊0

Yeah, I was hoping to get to october before firing it up but don't think I'll quite make it (new target if weather continues is mid-sept) - still, it looks like I've saved about 30% of my energy usage this year with my efforts so far so not so bad! (but then we were energy hogs up until circumstances forced otherwise - quite amazing how the little things mount up!
Think I'll try and set it for about 18.5 for the main part of the evening when we are all in (17:30-22:30) and drop it down to about 16 between then and 06:30 then up to 18 or so for the morning until 10:00, dropping to 16 again for late morning and afternoon.0 -
I don't have a thermostat as I have storage heaters. Aim to have living room around 18C don't put heating on in bedroom unless well below freezing.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Just had a look on Screwfix and they are pretty cheap (£9 - £15 region) so think I should be able to get these in this month.
Do you have to drain the system to fit them? seen a few people on the net say you don't need to but would rather play it safe as I'm no plumber..0 -
I love it warm, and have had my heating on for the last few weeks now, cannot do with being cold0

I like it about 16-17 degrees. I think that average indoor temperatures have been getting higher and higher in houses and workplaces over the years and it can be a bit too much. Not so much the heat but the dryness of it. I know people who keep their house at 22 degrees all the time. It makes me so uncomfortable and thirsty I don't know how they can stand it.0
