Hello, I am hoping you may be able to help me, today I have been meal planning and making a list of things in the freezer and I have found some minced pork and chicken fillets that I brought and froze in May, the packet says use within month, is this just a general guideline or should I throw the meat away?
Thank you in advance

we have a thread about Frozen Food Safety Misconceptions
there are some interesting links, particularly to the USDA site in the first post and in post #14 to the netmums site with information from Birds Eye.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I've got meat in my freezer well over a month old which I've used & hasn't done me any harm.In fact, the duck I had for Christmas dinner was bought the Christmas before on a buy one get one free offer at my local farm butchers, same with the Pheasent & I'm still here.
Go for it,it wont hurt you unless it's been defrosted & refrozen.0 -
If you are in any doubt, defrost it having removed any plastic packaging. Then sniff it. If it smells off, you'll know it
It's usually fine for several months, although you might get a bit if freezer burn on it - I generally use anything like that for stews or casseroles, as the slow cooking removes any toughness.
Best wishesSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
