My other half has just had the rug pulled from under her feet by First Direct, who are withdrawing her overdraft.
On top of the massive credit card debts we have, this isn't welcome!
The upshot is she's going to have to find another bank account within the next month. Realistically, what are the chances of her getting another account - preferably with debit card facility?
She has her business account with Santander (Alliance & Leicester) but we're lothed to give them more business as they're useless.
Her CC debts are with Barclaycard, M&S, Capital One and Natwest and all are in default.
I know Co-Op do a basic account but all reports seem to be that the customer service is horrible.
Any advice would be welcome.

Hi there. A debit card shouldn't be too much of a problem, as long as she doesn't want an overdraft.
I have an IVA and I have a Nationwide Flex account. The only limitation on me is they refuse to give me a cheque book - somewhat irrelevant since the demise of the cheque guarantee scheme, but just thought I'd mention it.
You may be reluctant to give Santander more business, and yes, they are awful at customer service, but if they know her and her business they may be more willing to assist.
Definitely don't bother with HSBC as First Direct is part of the HSBC group. Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!0 -
hi, i am really just a lurker looking for advice myself so dont know a right lot but if she was to ring them could she not sort out a payment plan to bring the overdraught down in stages?
I had a letter from nationwide few weeks back lowering my overdraught, when i rang them and explained that i just couldnt fford to pay it all off at once they were very helpful and my overdraught is being lowered in manageable chunks every month until i get to the new lower amount.0
