Supermarket Double Take

As we all check labels very carefully when we are out shopping, I was wondering if anyone else has had the "double-take" situation. It is the one where there are two products and the price difference/offer is so ridiculous, but you still see other customers in zombie like status buying the larger pack cause it's "cheaper" or a bundle cause it's on offer. A few times I have actually stopped people and pointed it out to them. Most of the time they are grateful!
I will start:
Actimel yogurt - Large Multipack of 8 is cheaper than the BOGOF 4 packs.
Stella Beer - After the football they were selling 24 bottles for £10 and 16 bottles for £18, I had to ask a person who worked there who said "Yeah I know it's mental!", but customers where still buying the 16 packs?!
Whiskas Cat Food Tins - Cheaper to buy 4 packs of 12 then it was to buy their 48 multi-pack. I must of spent about 30 minutes looking at this one, I thought I was going mad as the 12 packs were not even on offer.
Walkers Crisps - 12 pack £2.46, 18 pack £2 - Again Zombie mode I saw several people still buying the 12 packs.
Cheese - Branded Mature Chedder 40p cheaper than "Smart Price" and you got 30g more.
Baked Beans - Branston were doing a offer that meant each tin in the 4 pack was cheaper than smart price! Smart price is not always better.
---
Well thats all I have seen so far that has made me stop and ponder the labels for a while, people must think I am mad, sometimes with the prices, I think I am going mad! Anyone else had similar experiences?

Several times but I can't remember specifics.
I drive hubby & son crackers when I start working out prices in the shops:D
I'm also very careful when shopping online to check i'm buying the cheapest option.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
I was in MrT's the other week &,at the bottom of the fruit & veg aisle is a fridge thing that has meat offers on it.Being nosy I saw a pack of three chicken breast's for £3.00,so I grabbed a couple.Moving around the meat section,in the offer aisle at the bottom of the fridges was EXACTLY the same packs of chicken breasts but this time priced at £4.00!! A woman was checking them out next to me & I pointed out to her they were a quid cheaper down the other fridge.0

Thanks to all the SMART shoppers tips I have picked up on this site I now make sure I dont go shopping when I'm in a hurry and have time to consider the prices.
I noticed at @sda that is was cheaper to buy 2 single garlic baguettes rather than the double pack.2026 Grocery Spends
Apr = £119.44
Mar £ 104.90, Feb £90.58, Jan £74.050 -
I had something similar a few months ago (it doesn't seem to be common in the supermarket I use, I'm pleased to say): an elderly lady stopped me to ask me to confirm that it was cheaper to buy two packs of two bars of soap rather than buying the four-bar 'special value' multipack (which it was).
The only good thing about this is that it can lead to some nice conversations with other shoppers!

I hate shopping, especialy when you get 3 women all with trolleys who think its fine just to stop and chat and block an aisle, and then if you say excuse me please they look and frown upon you as if you have just asked them for a spare kidney, I do wonder why they think its fine to do and also the people who use the mobility electric chairs, I see half the people in them ask for help in getting things and whizzing around without a care in the world, the last time I was in there and witnessed one women using them and getting a lot of help with higher items she had a child in tow, and as soon as she left the store I watched her load up a car no problems and her child decided to make the great escape, her legs seemed fine then when she ran after him, I just thought she must have been a plain lazy oaf.0

There was something recently, in the local shop, where it was cheaper to buy two of the smaller items, than it was to buy one of the bigger ones. Even though it worked out to be the same quantity.
It's quite rare though. Typically the other way around. For example, 1L of milk is €1.05, but 500ml of milk is €1! Obviously better value to get the bigger one, but sometimes they have run out of them and I really need milk! lol
Crazyguy - I find it more annoying when someone sits on the aisle seat, on the bus, and then tuts loudly when you ask them to let you past to the empty seat next to them. There is a guy who gets on my bus regularly, and he always does this, so I've now made a point of asking him to move everytime I see him!
Ha, he probably hates me now!
Although, there was a woman who tried to queue jump in the shop this morning, and gave me evils whilst doing it. She got them right back, realised I wasn't going to be intimidated, backed down and then joined the back of the queue! Huzzah!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Hi foxblade,
As this is a shopping thread rather than Old Style I've moved it over to the Food shopping and grocery board where you should get more replies.

Definitely agree, I tend to look at the price per KG/100g/ml and do the maths with anything that I buy these days, I discovered a long time ago that many offers were not necessarily offers when I did the maths! Recently Silver Spoon Sugar, wasn't on offer but worked out cheaper by about 16p to buy two small bags rather than one large one.
And yes CrazyGuy - I agree it drives me crazy too, but I find now going early means its quieter and I have more time to think about what I am buying and also the queue at the checkout is shorter!Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'

A while back, in Sainsbugs I think, they had the triple pack of Green Giant sweetcorn which worked out more expensive than buying 3 single tins...It's not how far you fall - it's how high you bounce back.... :jHappiness is not a destination - it's a journey
