I am BACK from South Africa... the work was... challenging; having to be in the company of people you gladly leave behind at the end of the day was... challenging... but I got 3 days of sightseeing... so... y'know!
Health I put on 2.5lb... which isn't bad when you consider that you have to eat out or in the hotel every night. I did make some use of the cross trainer in the hotel a few times - which I think I helped... !!!
Wealth Surprisingly, I got my advance before I went, which has been pushed into a spare account until my expenses are done (and hopefully earning a meagre amount of interest) and freaking FINALLY all my initial expenses have been paid!
What IS annoying is that my recalculation for my mortgage hasn't come in yet... grrrr.... I want to be paying less so I can be overpaying MORE, if y'all know what I mean!
Up the ante I came home to v cold temps!!! So the heating has been on, sigh. But I also seem to have bought the Cape Town weather back with me - so I am going to put my heating on a bit lower and hopefully it will keep the house at a constant temp after having to crank it up for a couple of days!
Frugal FundI have spent a fortune on taxis - it is becoming practice to have a load of drinksies after journo-school on a Saturday and because the trains are such bobbins, I have had to get cabs home from Wimbledon to Richmond (around £30) and on a Monday night from Richmond (about £12)... I need to think about this... sigh- Mortgage @ March 2008: £194,965 ; Lightbulb Moment: July 2011: £164,926; End Date: March 2033

Ouch! But at least cabs get you home safe and sound.
Well done on controlling the weight even though you were in restaurants. Travelling upsets the routine and makes it MUCH harder to keep the weight under control.Borrowed £150,000 in an offset tracker mortgage in May 2007 - MFD May 2041 (67)

Hi Sepa
Yeah I made a point of having fruit for breakfast and veggies for starters where I could. I have never eaten as much steak (including various bouncy grazy beasties normally found on the jerseys of a losing SA rugby team)!! Veggies ahoy for the week!- Mortgage @ March 2008: £194,965 ; Lightbulb Moment: July 2011: £164,926; End Date: March 2033

And somehow we're halfway through October! How did that happen?!
Health: Another lb down which isn't surprising as I've done loads of walking this week (see below!)
Wealth: Hmm.... car's brakes practically failed last weekend, so was without car for three days (hence the walking). Not as catastrophic as you might think as I work from home. And fortunately, fiance is a mechanic so only £60 damage. However, his car's engine blew up (nice large hole in engine block where something flew out of it - and he was doing less than 30mph!), which is going to cost a small fortune as it's a big job and not one he can do himself. He has my car most of this week, so I'm back to walking (we don't live together either so it's tricky sharing a car)!! It's been one of those weeks...
On the upside, I was paid a nice sum by one of my clients, so that has largely been added to savings. Hopefully have picked up another regular, but small scale, client - every little helps. Planning on popping to bank to pay in some cash today.
Up the Ante: Have decided to pay an accountant!! :rotfl:Is that cheating?! I figure they will probably save me money in the long run and accounts are a major stress factor in my life that I just don't need!
Frugal Fun: The only fun had between changing brakes in the rain and the misery of a non-running car (I sound full of self-pity don't I?!:p) was a day-trip to Brighton for a friend's birthday. Not much frugality there, but it was nice to get out and I must work out how much I'm owed for petrol...
Can I add another target? I need to get organised for Christmas so it doesn't end up costing a fortune. This week: work out gift list and inventory gift cupboard and card situation.
