Receding Gums ???

The corsodyl daily toothpaste doesnt stain your teeth though, just the mouth wash.
But does your dentist not have a hygienist? They even tell you/show you how to use your electric brush.0 -
You can use the latest miracle tooth paste, mouthwash and it will make absolutely no difference to tartar build up.
If you do not mechanically remove plaque from between the teeth , if it is left there 72 plus hours, it will form tartar.
Gum disease takes hold not because you are not using the right toothpaste etc but because plaque is allowed to collect and remain undisturbed at the point the gum attaches to the tooth. Any treatment for gum disease is merely making it easier for someone to physically remove with a brush or floss or tepe brushes etc the plaque at the gum level.
90% of people do not brush or floss properly and the best job a hygienist can do is to show them how. In some cases people will not have the necessary manual dexterity to clean as well as possible or may have medical problems that require additional help like mouthwashes etc but they are not a substitute for physically cleaning the plaque off.0 -
Hi,
Update on my post. Have been using brushes instead of floss and cordosyl also used enamel type toothpaste every so often! Anyway to my surprise the other day I noticed the gap between lower middle teeth has closed up! Could this have been a gum problem? Maybe I was flossing too hard! Didnt expect gap would close up?
Cheers

Have you seen a dentist in the meantime? How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
no I havent seen one. Went few weeks back and he told me I had receding gums which I was surpised at but took his word for it! Had a replacement filling done while I was there but that was it.

I have very rarely if ever seen a problem when someone is flossing too hard! Your gum is probably better because you are now spending more time cleaning between the teeth properly with a brush which is more appropriate where there is a gap. If you continue using corsodyl you will get staining and its the cleaning thats important not the mouthwash or toothpaste.0 -

Sorry - misread the date on the first post - I was under the impresson that your last visit was a few months ago!
No - dentist told you to brush better. Seems like you are brushing better now resulting in the problem going. Job done! Just keep up the brushing. How to find a dentist.

use an electric brush so maybe just paying more consideration to cleaning.
Understand about cordosyl, once its gone not much left in bottle I will revert back to a listerine or other mouthwash.
The gap was between my 2 centre bottom middle teeth.
thanks for everyones input.0 -
You dont need mouthwash it does no good other than for specific problems. In fact after brushing you should spit but dont rinse otherwise you are stopping the fluoride from the toothpaste staying in contact with the teeth.0

I was the OP on this subject and my problem gums seem to have returned and I am really concerned now. Maybe I am being over concerned.
Well I will start from the beginning.....
I went to the dentist in late August for 6-month check up had a filling! I also raised concerns about my receding gums (especially my 4 front middle lower teeth). The dentist said he also experienced this problem in his younger days and there was nothing that you could do to treat it! Just told me to floss and keep teeth clean and be gentle with brushing.
I went away and decided to try some sensitive type brushes for my electric toothbrush and concentrated on my brushing Not too hard! I also did a month course of Corsodyl mouthwash (NOT the daily type one but the mecidinal type). Having done this I noticed a considerable improvement in my gums and the gaps between my teeth did not appear to be as large as they had done! Also during this period my tooth which had had the filling had began to be a little sensitive - mainly when drinking hot or cold drinks or eating hot food – I put this done to slight receding of the gum however I went back to the dentist for him to check. The dentist pricked the area around tooth which had the filling and it began to bleed very slightly – he said it was a sign of unhealthy gums so prescribed me some anti-biotics and also sold me some COLGATE DURAPHAT Toothpaste with 2800 Fluoride I took the course of AB and used the toothpaste for a couple of weeks until it ran out - Just to add my gums do not bleed when I floss or brush my teeth.
Within a few days once I finished to AB & Duraphat toothpaste – my teeth felt like the gaps were getting bigger between them – not sure if I am using my tongue between my teeth too much to check and wether this is having any effect! The gaps certainly look bigger again so my gum must have receded again, I didn’t actually think the gums could come back once they had worn away but the gaps on my front lower teeth are definitely reacting under any kind of treatment.
I have tried and finished another course of Corsodyl treatment wash and my gums seemed to heal again – but I don’t want to continue using this mouthwash because I have heard this can cause staining to the teeth.
I have since bought the Corsodyl Daily mouth wash and was going to try this and see if any change – I also ordered some Colgate Time Control toothpaste last night on the internet and today bought some Aloe Vera Dr Organic toothpaste.
Funnily enough my wife has also developed some mouth ulcers recently and she also had a filling at the same dentist with me on the same day – could this be related?
Is it normal to have a filling without an injection? I did and my wife die but then I suppose it is dependent on the depth of filling maybe>?
