advice needed to help clear debts

hi,
was hoping someone somewhere maybe able to provide me some advice. I have substantial debt - probably in the mark up of around 12K or more...however, nothing comes up on my Credit Report.
A brief history - about 7K of this debt was on credit cards over the last 10 years...during this period i have lived in NY. I came back to UK in 2005 and got first job in UK really in 2006...which is when i obtained credit report. Used to have HSBC (used a US law firm to threaten in 2005 - nothing since) and Abbey (last used and heard from in probably 2004) accounts and neither of them showed up on the report...they used to threaten me with court action but i've not heard anything in a long time. So i don't know whether to just let sleeping dogs lie?
i now only have an RBS card which i'm on a payment plan for. As i have no real credit rating (i think mainly because i've been abroad for so long) i'm not sure if i can obtain a credit card or some sort of loan to basically pay down the RBS card.........i only have this card because i obtained it about 10 years ago as a student and had paid it down but then stupidly racked it back up again in the last 2 years....
any advice ... anyone???
thank you so much

Hello there and welcome
I think the standard advice is to get your report from all three main credit reference agencies (link at top of the main forum page). If nothing is shown on them, then it's difficult to get exact details of all your debts unless you kept the paperwork.
Worth knowing that debts that have not been acknowledged in the last 6 years, cannot be enforced.
Good luck!Leason learnt :beer:0
