Got our yearly gas bill, pleasantly surprised

Today we got our gas bill in for the past year, something im usualy dreading incase the DD hasnt been covering the usage and shock horror im £25 in credit :)

Total bill for last 363 days = £440.98 so on average £1.22 per day

Considering the winter we had £440 for the heat and hot water wasnt to bad compaired to what some of my friends were paying for oil over the winter (Average size houses).

Just for clarification we live in a good sized ground floor appartment that is quick to heat, so obviously that helps. Also have a 3 year old so wouldnt ever let the place get to cold.

That's impressive. Maybe we should all live in apartments. However, why did you need to wait for an annual bill to come in to discover how low your bill would be? Couldn't you have checked your meter occasionally? I never cease to be amazed that people don't do this, especially if they think their DDs are too high or too low. Are the gas meters locked and only accessible by the meter readers?

I'd say £8.00 per week for a 2 bed (I'm guessing 2 bed) is OK or average. I lived in a 4 floor 2 bed apartment for a year and only had the heating on a few days of the year. Most of our gas was hot water. My years payment would have been less than half that. Granted that was 4 years ago.

I think it cheap compared to an old 4 bed but depends on the size of the apartment. Most modern ones are IMO tiny.

I've just got gas installed, I'd love to get somewhere near those bills.... :money:
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
  • I wish we had Gas instead of Oil, last winter we spent around £300 over 3 months
