Those which can deal with credit cards, CD discs and paper clips are worth considering, with the paper clip option probably the most useful in an office.

Cross Cut Shredders are more secure, though check the dimensions as even high end ones can produce still readable output

I got one from Asda a few years ago for £18 which produces cross cut strips of 3mm by 18mm which was the best I could find then. Try cutting a piece of a printed document to the size given for the output, and if you are not happy, keep looking

Fellowes is among the bigger makers of shredders and Argos used to supply those

    Check for prices

    There are a number here

with this, which produces 3mm by 9mm output

    this seems to do all:

are they fairly robust had one in past which broke, but just a cheap free one.

do I need to pay more if its to last or is this sufficient

    Thanks again

Looks fine, again, if you have a printed document you do not need, cut a strip this size 3.9 x 48mm and check you are happy with it.

Another way is to have a few bin bags if you have the room and when you empty the shredder, put a third in each of the bags, then anyone who can be bothered to try and re-instate anything won't get anything useful

With it being plastic, it is only up against paper so that should not matter

If you've got a compost bin that's the best place place to put the shredded paper.

I got this one recently and it's a lot quieter than the old one I had. Also has a pull out tray so leaves (a bit) fewer shredded strips of paper on the floor than the ones where you have to take the top off to empty

too early to say how reliable it is. It has 1 year warranty and so far has successfully munched about 200 pages for me.
  • Thanks guys

yep 48mm did seem little long would prefer 5mm but they would seem to be expensive, I guess I have to weigh up price against need,

Compost bin :) would work no room

like look of rexel shredder and idea of no mess going for

    Don't forget lubrication.

a few drops of 3-in-one oil can work wonders. 64015.jpg

Interesting to see the £65 Rexel in your link for John Lewis produces bigger strips than the £40 one

If it is tax deductable, get what you want within reason, it shouldn't be turned down if it is security related

some of the Rexel shredders come with instructions not to use oil.
  • I think you could probably pick something decent up for around £30-£50 (as ever check the reviews though before you buy). I wouldn't go too cheap because it normally won't perform brilliantly and will just drive you mad!

As Santer says try and find one that deals with staples and paperclips - otherwise having to remove them can be a pain. I think quite a lot of shredder models now have this ability though.

This site http://www.compareshredders.co.uk/all-shredders let's you compare prices on different shredders so might be useful. They have that Style Plus shredder http://www.compareshredders.co.uk/shredder/pid/21/REXEL-Style-Plus-Paper-Shredder and £39.95 looks like a good price.

I would also try and get one that is DIN level 3 and upwards - that way, you know that it's pretty secure in terms of the size of the particles it shreds into - good for office sensitive data.
