Slow cooker too high?

Hi
I just got a slow cooker for Christmas, which I am delighted with.
But, I have noticed it seems to cook a lot quicker than the recipes in the accompanying booklet indicate.
Today I have made rice pudding which was meant to take 4 hours on high, according to the recipe, but after 2 - 21/2 hours was cooked and starting to burn (and I had made double the quantity indicated in the booklet) - im not complaining - I was just a bit worried as if I'd nipped out to the shops and left it on I'd have come back to a very burnt mess even though I had followed the instructions.
Just wondered if anyone else had found this too?

I think the High on my Morphy Richards is quite high too (330W! sorry I just looked!) so I would usually use the medium or low settings, but it's quite handy to have the choice. Im surprised that your booklet said rice pudding on high. Good luck with it, you'll just work out what works over time.0

Thanks chmmy
Mine is just a cheap slow cooker ( I don't even remember the brand - hubby bought it) and only has two settings, low and high.
Since I doubled the quantities (not enough for a family of four I didn't think) it would have cooked very quickly indeed had I stuck to the original!M.A.C.A.W member number 39

Pipkin, despite the instructions, SC's can vary from model to model, which is why, when you first get one, it's always prudent to a) test the recipes given 'as is' in the instruction booklet - that way you can adapt them for any anomalies and b) keep a record of any variances!
I got a combi micro just before Christmas, followed the instructions to the letter ... yet still, I find, I need to make adjustments.
Sometimes it can be down to the siting of the piece of equipment - room temp etc.
Keep experimenting but do write down any notes of your own against the recipes so you will have it to hand for future reference.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
