Wobbles about Wedding dress choice

I was just wondering if anyone else is having any wobbles about their choice of wedding dress?

I found looking for my dress quite traumatic, which wasn't helped by the fact my cat was dying at the time :(

Now I have choosen a beautiful dress:j, its all fully paid for in the dress shop and I have my fitting booked for 1st of Decemeber (getting married Feb 2012).

But I keep worrying that I will have gone off it by then and want something totally different :(

Not to mention I worry I'll get pregnant between now and the wedding (we're not trying its just another worry) and my dress will definately not accomodate a bump!

Not helped by I had a really wierd dream at the weekend that I somehow ended up wearing the wrong dress and none of us realised till after the ceromony. Don't know the significance but it ended up a sophie tollie dress (i've never even treid on one of her dresses!)

I know its all totally irrational but I'm a very organised perfectionist and I guess I finding the whole planning thing difficult to accept that not everything will happen how I imagined it :o

Am I alone?

    no you are not alone!
its so normal to have many wobbles- and you will have wobbles about everything!

can you get a picture of the dress (on the net maybe?!) this will help- and could u see it before dec?

just remember there is a reason u picked that dress- you loved it and still do!

and the dreams and pregnancy thing-- so common! and i had both!

  • I am in exactly the same boat. Getting married in March 2012, my dress is bought and waiting for my fittings in December.

I have had so many wobbles about the dress, not helped by the fact I work opposite a bridal shop!

I am also really struggling with the pressure of organising the wedding. Finding it hard that all the magazines show everything in perfection and I really worry that my wedding won't be perfect and will go horribly wrong.

Been feeling like this for about 6 weeks and it really started to get me down, to the point where I was picking fights with my H2B in order to avoid talking about how I felt. Finally spoke to him on Sunday about the stress I was feeling. He was amazing, just talked me through it all and made me realise that I don't ahve to compete with everyone else and our wedding will be perfect because we're getting married.

I wold say, get a photo of your dress so you can remind yourself of why you chose it, also if your finding it hard, talk to someone about it.

I think this is completely normal, however it is a relief to hear of others who are struggling or having wobbles. Sometimes it does feel like its all on you.

  • Your not alone. I am getting married next July and have had my dress since Feb time and every now and then I have mini wobbles and I think 'is it too plain' or 'is the train too long for the type of wedding im having' but then I think it was the fact it was plain that I loved it (didnt make me look too top heavy like other dresses I had tried on) and the train makes it- and then everytime I pop to mil2bs I have a little a peek (not tried it on since I got in- I may not take it off!!:rotfl:).

So what Im trying to say is when you start having wobble remind yourself of what you loved in the dress when you first tried it on.

I get married in 6.5 weeks and haven't even seen my dress yet! It's being made for me and between consultation and first measuring appointment (which was after the fabric had been bought) I had a major wobble on the colour. For ages I'd wanted a deep purple dress then veered between purple and silver, finally settling on silver. Just before the measuring appointment I a) saw a gorgeous deep purple dress and b) saw a pictire of one I thought was the colour of mine and didn't like it. Felt quite sick until I saw my material for real and realised it was much nicer than the one I'd seen and felt happy again!
I've since seen other things in my colour and it's calmed me down so no more colour wobbles but it is kinda scary (in an exciting way IYKWIM) to have seen no more than a sketch of my dress so close to the day itself
  • I get wobbles about my dress too, at times I think "should I have tried more on?" "did that other one look better on me?"

But then I have to stop myself and remember the feeling I had when I chose the dress, the butterflies I got, the smile on my face, the fact that I knew it was the one for me...

Did you get a photo of you in the dress? When I'm having wobbles it helps me to look at me in the dress and then all my wobbles go away :)

My dress is being delivered this week or next and I am pretty nervous. I have changed in shape a fair bit since then, including losing 4-5inches on my b00bs, so I am quite worried if it will still look good. I am also a little annoyed at myself as if I had lost the weight earlier I could have looked at a much wider range of dresses. I have moved from 'plus size' down to the top of normal sizes.

I am also concerned that I have a really boring standard dress... which isn't really special. But at the same time, I did try on a lot and totally loved this one at the time! My friend who came with me said it was the one I looked so much happier in than the others, and the pictures look ok I think - although I have the worst silly grin and red skin which is a bit distracting!

Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes when I try it on again. Hopefully I will just remember how good I felt before and fall back in love with it!

Your not alone at all. Many many bride to be`s have the same worries. I did. I chose my dress 12 months before i go married - Maggie Sottero "MYRA" I decided that was the one after having tried on about 20 different dresses in different styles. As my wedding was getting nearer i started having doubts and i wanted to change to another Maggie Sottero dress so i spoke to one of my bridesmaids about my worries and she told me, before i make any rash decisions go and try the dress on again to make sure it is/isnt the one and you will know. I did just that and it was the one. My mum and sister even shed a tear when they saw me in the dress x

I have another possible way to make yourself feel better - it was a suggestion made to a friend who's bought three (vintage!) dresses and had to pick between them:

Get a pic of the dress you have chosen.
Get two other pics of dresses you like.

Put them on a table, and close your eyes. Mix the pics up. Point at one, and open your eyes. Do you feel disappointed that you've 'chosen' that one? If it's one of the other ones, then that might help you feel more confident about the dress you've chosen. If it's the dress you've bought, think about speaking to the bridal shop about the possibility of swapping your deposit towards a different dress.
