Finance agreement mess!

Hello there! I have recently had a new finance agreement for my new toyota. I had my car for about a month and the first payment went out. A huge amount of £290!! The agreement i had set out by the car dealership was £135 pm with a deposit of £150 on the day. I did not get given a copy of the agreement i had signed which i would have been able to look through properly and notice the small print of the £290 lump sum first payment and cancel within 14 days. I feel like i have been lied to by the salesman (who has now left and is nowhere to be seen) as he stated he had done everything he could to get this deal for us and would be able to reduce it to these payments and help us out!
Nowhere did he point out the first payment of £290. Do i have any legs to stand on as he failed to mention this in the contract and just got me to sign here...here....here and here....???

Anychance of going into the unfair contract terms act 1977?

If anybody could shine a legal light on this matter i would be happy :)

Why did you not get a copy of the contract at the time of signing?

the agreement was never for £135, you didnt read or take a copy of the agreement, let this be a lesson.

Show me an honest and up front car dealer and I'll show you a desperate punter wanting a nice shiny new tin can car.

The problem is, one is desperate to have and one is desperate to sell so it's a explosive mixture that often ends in tears..like this one.

You should have read what you signed and ensured you got a copy of it.

Nobody has used the word "stupid" until you did.

Im certainly no expert on finance but I think the high first payment includes a charge for the paperwork involved.

So you signed the agreement and a direct debit mandate without reading it, were you really that keen to get the car?

All I've done is tell you the truth. You have been silly. You've signed up for a credit agreement without even making a note of the payments.

While the actions of the garage are less than impressive sometimes you, as an individual, have to look in the mirror and accept the truth - you could have avoided this situation.

By all means blame me for it. Obviously it's my fault.
