  • Same thing happened to me a few years ago,I found that rubbing dry bicarb of soda (lots of!) well into the marks and then hoovering did the trick. The bicarb won't harm the carpet so go on, give it a go. Best of luck!

Hiya, one of my darling GRRRR Dogs has very kindly decided to go in the (unused)chimney(unfortunatly some soot came down through the storms)and now i have VERY pretty black sooty paw prints all over my lovely red carpet!!
I've tried hoovering it up and it just wont budge,i think wetting it prob isnt a good idea as read in another thread it can go like dye!!
Any help on how to get these sooty marks up is greatly appreciated.

Problem with soot is its greasy.

I googled soot stain removal and found this:

In addition, another recommendation (which I personally would try first as I would be concerned about the colour coming out of the carpet) is to sprinkle table salt on the area generously. Allow the salt to settle for at least 15 minutes then vacuum.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
