Please help - Bailiffs

Options
Hi all,

I received the following letter today from Dukes bailiffs:

Re: Council Tax £312.06

I am in receipt of your further correspondence regarding the above outstanding account, the contents of which are noted.

I note we have replied to your previous correspondence whereby you were specifically requested to contact our office by telephone in order that we could progress your account further.

In the absence of a telephone call from you, I must point out tat we are unable to hold your account and bailiff action will now continue to be taken to collect the full outstanding balance.

I have never heard of this company before, and was unaware that I owed any money. I have recently moved back in with my parents' and I assume this must be a debt for my previous address that I did not know about. I am now terrified they are going to turn up at my parents' house.

I was going to reply telling them I have never received any correspondence but I thought I would ask some advice on here first, as it seems strange the letter referred to my "further correspondence", when I have never been on contact with them.

Does anybody have any advice? Thanks.

Yes,go to the court where you lived and ask for a copy of the liabity order.
    Then Appeal the case

  • Thank you vax2002. Should I also contact the bailiffs in the meantime?

Contact the bailiffs in writing only. It will not be pleasant talking to them if you do not owe money - they will not be open to reason and they will phone you frequently there after. You really need to know the address this is for and the alleged dates and take it from there.

  • Yes, I am quite worried about talking to the bailiffs.

Thank you. I will contact the Council to obtain this information.
  • The council have responded telling me the period it covers and the date the bailiffs were instructed (08/03/11). The amount they have on their records is £269.56 so I assume the bailiffs have added on a charge of their own. There is another amount outstanding that has not yet been passed to the bailiffs. The council said I can sort this out with them but need to deal directly with the bailiffs for the other amount.
