Solar PV - Recommended Supplier for Bournemouth / Dorset

Hi

I am looking to purchase a Solar PV system outright (not rent)

Can anyone recommend a good company to get some quotes from (either one of the good UK wide ones) or a recommended local installer

Keen to use a reputable company / installer

My location is Bournemouth / Dorset

Any assistance appreciated

Your area is the epicentre of what was the solar thermal industry in UK. Some of their sales tactics would make double glazing salesmen blush.

Some of these firms have been the subject of various 'Watchdog' type programmes.

Others have been subject of many complaints - call your local Trading Standards office for details.

The difficulty is that these firm can simply cease trading and open up the next day with a new name but the same personnel, equipment and premises.

Some have jumped on the solar PV bandwaggon.

If you find a firm, get the name of the directors and check them out with the local trading standards office.

I would recommend you contact a big firm like Tesco.
  • Not all companies are like that - there are some decent small installers out there but as Cardew says you need to be careful about who you pick.

If time is your enemy go for a household name but take into account you'll get a bog standard install by a subcontractor who could be here today gone tomorrow.

If you have more time (and the best generating times have almost passed for the year) do your homework and contact local installers through the MCS site for your area and take time to learn and understand what you are being offered. You'll get a feel for who is prepared to go the extra mile - it's not all down to cost.
