Making the most of being home with my boys

Options
Hi everyone,
This is a shiny new diary from me, as I haven't posted on my old one for ages, we have had a new little man arrive, and the time feels right to start a new diary!
I am a SAHM mum to 3 lovely boys who are 3, 1 and a half, and 2 months :D I gave up work in April, as it wasn't worth it for me to carry on with the cost of childcare. My hubby works full-time and is reasonably paid, but with 3 young kids and a heck of a mortgage we have got in a bit of debt.
We owe roughly 3.5k on a credit card and have just paid 3k off it after we were given a bit of money from hubby's gran.
My plan is to get the credit card paid off asap whilst staying out of our overdraft, and managing to save a little bit too (hopefully). Hubby is going to be getting an extra 20% on his wage for the next 5 years as his company have stopped their final salary pension, so we are going to use this to first of all clear debt, and then overpay the mortgage. (We are on interest only at the moment and want to move back onto repayment asap)
Next month will be the first month we start with a clean slate, so no overdraft - thanks to the money we received recently, and we are going to make a good payment off the credit card too.
I'm also starting to buy Xmas and birthday pressies for the boys so I don't have to pay for them all in one go.
I try to make a bit of extra money by selling things on Ebay, although this seems to have falled by the wayside at the moment, and I need to get back into it this month too.

  • Ok, 1st day of being good and getting this debt shifted!

Hubby is working away today and won't be back til tomorrow, so just me and the boys. I think I will take DS1 for a haircut before he goes back to nursery (what an ordeal that will be). This afternoon we are going to a local soft play centre with my friend and her 2 children. I have 2 free vouchers, so it won't cost me anything apart from the price of a cup of tea.
My MIL is coming over tonight to watch DS3 whilst I put DS 1&2 to bed as he is only 10 weeks old and wants to feed all evening.

  • Hi all,
Yesterday was slightly more expensive than I planned, as I took both boys for haircuts. It was £11.50 for both with I didn't think was too bad (although not as cheap as clipping it ourselves). I hoped having a hairdresser cut it would be less hideous than doing it ourself, it wasn't!!
Today has been a MSD, but I've been to the charity shop to get some new clothes for myself as nothing fits me! I still have a stone and a half to lose to get back to my pre baby weight and don't want to spend a lot of money on new clothes, as I know I will lose the weight soon enough. I spend £22 and got 4 new tops for me, a t-shirt for DH and a toy for TS3 which I didn't think was too bad.
I have also changed our pet insurance and my mobile phone contract, and saved up £24 a month :j I'm going to have a look at our utilities next...

  • Today has been a tiring day! It's the last day of the school holidays here, so we took all the boys to a kids adventure park in Nottingham, they loved it. We paid for it last we paid for it last week via Paypal, but when we got there today they said that the Paypal payment hadn't gone through and we had to pay for it via card. I will be checking in the next few days to see if that is actually correct, as there's no way I'm double paying! We were also a bit naughty and got a McDonalds for team but it's kind of a last supper for me, as I'm starting operation diet tomorrow...

  • I'm still in bed and hubby is just getting ready to take boys out for the morning, so I'm going to get my bum in gear and sort through the 10 massive bags of clothes he brought down from the loft yesterday, some are mine (that are probably too small), some are the boys that they've grown out of, and some are to grow into, I'm going to try and whizz through them so I can claim the bedroom back - it looks like a jumble sale at the moment!
First things first, another coffee :p
