HI again
Hopefully someone will be able to help me.
My OH 40TH birthday is coming up a week before Christmas, and they want to go to Edinburgh to a good 5 star hotel.
However I have looked on the various websites, and discovered that the prices are a little more than I thought!!
Can anyone recommend a good 5* hotel in central Edinburgh, that does a good breakfast? (Most of the hotels are room only, and whilst Im happy to pay approx £200 for 2 nights I dont particualary want to be paying another small fortune to include breakfast)!!
Also how to I get the best deal - any hints or tips would be great!
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thankyou all for your help.

Good Edinburgh hotels are expensive, you will have to pay considerably more than your budget for a 5 star with breakfast, I would say 2/3 times more - minimum.0

Edinburgh is the second most expensive city for hotels in the whole of the UK. As BigAl94 said you are probably looking at £400/£500 for 2 nights in a 5 star in Edinburgh.
For £200 you may get a decent 3*
Edit: On looking on booking.com there are some 4* for 2 nights in December just under the £200 mark. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
I stayed at the Caledonian Hilton just below the castle it included Breakfast £160 for a double room for two nights mayday weekend, it was amazing.
Why not signup to Groupon Edinburgh you should get a deal0 -
Thankyou to each of you who took the time to reply - really very much appreciated.
I only thought of 5* hotels as it is my OHs birthday.
I now realise that I might have to lower my expectations as my budget it no more than £220 max - hopefully including breakfast!
So long as it is a good top quality hotel in the City centre, with prefably a swimming pool/leisure facilities and a good restaurant in it or nearby - which is reasonably priced!
I have stayed in the Caledonian Hilton - which was great, but the prices for the weekend before Christmas are a bit much for my budget!
Thanks again for all your help. :T0 -

I stayed at the Apex City in Grassmarket. Close to the castle. Just about walkable across to Princess Street but only if you have thighs of steel for the steep climb. There were a few pubs across from the hotel but personally I didn't rate them.0

A groupon deal should become available in time
There are also great deals in the city with small/individual establishments
I am presuming you will not be in the hotel for much other than sleeping (well not exactly a by the pool at any time of year)
If you would you consider the "have the home and car" for a few days you can have both the live there and tour there at a reasonable cost0 -
Back in May I booked a wknd away in edinburgh for end of Sept and have ended up paying almost £200 for a Premier Inn for the 2 nights. Now I'm not knocking PI, as I've stayed in a few and they've all been lovely, but none of them were 5 star accommodation.
I've been keeping an eye on Groupon etc but haven't seen anything suitable.
Hopefully the OP will get something sorted - I'd like to hear if they get something within their budget.
