benefits when working 20 hours per week

Hi all,
Hoping that someone can answer a few questions for me
I'm currently unemployed and receiving benefits but looking for jobs that are 16 hours per week as I understand I will still receive full council tax benefit, child tax credit and housing benefit if I do 16 hours. What if I do 20 hours, will that change my benefits drastically?
I'm actually applying for retail management jobs (that's been my career so far) but until I get offered something that will match what I receive in benefits, it's not realistic for me to take a job that will leave me unable to pay all my bills. I hate being in this situation but I have to think of the practicality of things.
thanks in advance
Ed

Wel the denefits board is more suited, theres a website you can use to check what your entitled to called entitled to and it asks you what hours you work although it asks if you work 16 to 29 but not 20. I would have thought a retail management job would easily cover the bills,0

Whilst I can fully understand where you are coming from its this very attitude that will cause the collapse of the welfare system and will casue its demise.
Surely as to whether it will affect your benefits will surely depend on the salary that you earn; even if you work 16 hours then that will affect your benefits.2014 Target;

No what the OP is saying that he won't do a job that pays less in benefits he's currently receiving.
I thought you had to be working to receive CTC or am I mistaken?2014 Target;

Many thanks. Would it be considered rude to restart this thread on that board as well?0 -

sorry if i misunderstood, i read it to be that he wanted to know if he worked for 20 hours would it cut his benefits which it would wouldnt it as hes earning more money than doing 16 hours0 -
You're looking at it the wrong way round OP. The idea is to get a job if you can and then let benefits top up your income. You're not supposed to start with the benefits and work out if you can afford to work. I don't think I'm turning into a moaning old tory but I do find your post a bit problematic.0

If you're getting paid over £15 an hour it might be (almost) worth it, but for most people it's not. That's the system!0
