Mortgage HELP!!!

Hi,
My girlfriend and I tried for a mortgage early this year but got refused because I have bad credit. If she was to apply for a mortgage on her own then they would only offer her 60k. But the house prices that we are aiming for are around 80k. We will have around 8k deposit. I am the main earner but feel helpless, is there anything else that we can do rather than wait X amount of time for my credit to finally be good enough to apply together.
Thanks, Wayne

Firstly, how bad is your credit? Can you be specific, do you have defaults, ccj's etc? Have you spoken to a mortgage Broker?0

I am now debt free but my credit score is 578 (experian)
I have 2 defaults on my file but they have been settled

How long ago were they? I think they disappear after three years (although I may be wrong).
I'd suggest you get more saved if possible - set a target to say save 4k in the next 6 months - or whatever is achievable.
Also, I'd suggest contacting a broker who may be able to find a deal for someone with less than perfect credit ratings.Feb 2012 - onwards MF achieved
September 2016 - Back into clearing a mortgage - Was due to be paid off in 32 years in March 2047 -
April 2018 down to 28.00 months vs 30.04 months at normal payment.
Predicted mortgage clearing 03/2047 - now looking at 02/2045
Aims: 1) To pay off mortgage within 20 years - 20370
