Hi
that time has come, our silent night has had it after 5 years, well 4 really but it makes strange noises when you turn over on it. had a look around Dreams today and was a bit shocked at the prices and then had a search on here and im glad i didnt buy one.
I realise that the purchase is a personal thing and everyones needs are different. What i would like to know is what makes to go for, there seems to be a lot of info on what or who to avoid but not so many reccomendations.
Im after a king size that will sit in an oak frame with slats. I dont want a Tempur memory foam as we both find them uncomfotable. I dont mind if it has to be turned if this will means it better quality or will last longer. Im 6'3" and 16 stone and prefere something on the firmer side. The budget is around £500.
So if anyone can reccomend the brands to go for then we can go and lie on a few and try and make a choice.
many thanks,Paul

Great in the inderpendent shops and try them out, you should get a lovely pocket sprung mattress for that kind of money. There over 60 different companies making mattress in the UK so suggesting some is quite difficult. Considering they all make a massive range of products too, if each company made just 10 different models that over 600 to choose from!
Having said that Kaymed, KingCoil and Healthbeds do make a wonderful product, if your looking for springs and memory foam.
But best advice is, really do try before you buy.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -

Thanks for the manufacturer suggestions.
However, the advice to "try before you buy" really doesn't help much. Shopping for a mattress is not the same as test driving a car, trying on a pair of jeans or even sampling food in a supermarket.
The only mattress supplier I have found which even comes close to offering a try before you buy deal worth bothering with are this mob:
http://www.memoryfoamwarehouse.co.uk/
Sadly, they don't seem to offer a great range of pocket sprung mattresses with memory foam tops.0 -
Trying before you buy is still the way to go,the company that you suggested have these T+C's
11. 60 DAY TRIAL
11.1 To ensure our customers are perfectly happy with the comfort of their new mattress we offer a 60 night trial period.
11.2 Within 60 days of delivery should you not be entirely happy with your mattress you can contact us to make a request to exchange it for a mattress of the same size, and of equivalent or higher value.
11.3 To cover administration and handling costs an exchange charge of £45 will apply.
11.4 The 60 night trial applies to stock mattresses only. Bespoke mattresses, divan bed bases, bed frames, mattress toppers, bunks, pillows and all other bed and bedding products are exempt.
11.5 This is limited to one exchange per transaction
So you can only really try 2 mattresses and it'll cost you an extra £45 for the privalage. Hardly money saving is it! Oh and you have to buy another mattress from them which is dearer!Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
I'm looking too just now (for a small double though) Anyway this looks a good spec and price and comes in KS too.

I dunno about anyone else, but I'd happily pay an extra £45 for the privilege than be stuck with a mattress I tried out for 20 minutes (let's be optimistic) in the shop but then found I couldn't sleep on.
I would humbly suggest that shelling out £45 is more MS than having to find the readies for a whole new mattress if the one you tried out in the shop turned you into a cripple.
As I've said, the only thing stopping me using that firm is their limited range. If they could broaden their range, I reckon they'd be on to a winner.0 -

But you'll still be stuck with the 2nd mattress if you don't like it.
At least trying them in store you can try what 20 plus mattresses depending on store size. Or buy from the internet and try 2 mattresses. Some shops have over 60 products on display to try.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0
