sweets, hot chocky a letter from santa saying how hes looking forward to delivering his presents (im on abourt ur brother) a throw away camera,
  • I make one for my partner who is 27 and my son who is 2, it is pretty easy! For my partner i put in new PJS, boxers, winter socks, hot choc sachet in a mug, a movie, a voucher for takeaway for two, a tub of pickamix from candyking, after eights, bath smellys etc.

For my son this year i have for him, a christmas play doh set, candy cain, new pjs, new socks, santa stop here sign and door hanger, xmas bath soap. still to add some sort of baking kit, chocolate bauble, his torch and reindeer food to sprinkle, new toothbrush, snow man soup (hot chocolate and marshmellows in a cone) x

Hi after following the christmas eve hamper thread last year and all your wonderful ideas i decided to do one for my nieces this year and have already started collecting things i went on halfcost and got some pjs to put in and i also got these

    http://www.halfcost.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=11&productId=72838&langId=-1&cache_entry=-1

they have a chocolate in but that is out of date but you get 4 in the tube and they have a zip in the back, i have took the chocolate out and will put some sweets or replace the chocolate in it with a chocolate coin and when they have finished them on christmas eve they can then hang them on the tree.

  • I make an Xmas Eve hamper for my son. I put things like, gold chocolate coins, new slippers, new dressing gown, new pj's etc. A dvd, novalty hot water bottle, Raindeer dust. Shower gel, face cloth, new toothbrush, new toothpaste. Everything new basically.
  • A BOOK!

You don't want to over-stimulate a child on Christmas Eve with a DVD, you want to settle them down with a magical Christmas story book :)

Also, a children's lavender bubble bath to help them relax, a horlicks sachet rather than hot chocolate for the same reason and a festive cuddly toy to snuggle up with. Reindeer food is also good - a bit of oats and glitter mixed up to leave out for Santa's visit (if you do the whole Santa thing).

I wouldn't put sweets into a child's xmas eve hamper, you don't want them eating sweets when they're already going to be excited and struggling to sleep. Great for the boyfriend though, especially like the chocolate and marshmallow cone idea.

A book is a fab idea. Your brother is the perfect age to start a tradition where he has a christmas story read to him each christmas eve. My eldest got The Night Before Christmas when he was little as a present from mums and tots group and I think I've read it every year since.

I think about what I want mine to do each Christmas eve and what would be handy for them to have

    so as examples

I want them to have a bath - and maybe wash their hair - toiletries.

I want them to get into their nightwear - pjs, slippers.

I want them to put out stuff for father Christmas calling - Mince pie plate, santa stops here sign, reindeer food, magic key for the house.

I want them to settle down for the evening before going to bed - mug, hot choc, dvd, book, board game.

You need to think about what time the hamper will 'appear' though. It's no good giving it an hour before bed-time if there's a dvd that will run for 90 mins.

I'm planning on doing an xmas eve hamper for my boys this year, pretty much with the same things that everyone has suggested so far. I'm also going to try and get a children's xmas jigsaw (my boys love jigsaws, esp my 3yo). We also have a tradition of reading the Night Before Christmas on xmas eve.

I'm also thinking of doing the hubs one so will need to have a think on this one.
  • Thanks these are greAt ideas :) I'm thinking of giving my brother his during the day when I will be at mums so we can dosome baking or something then I'll do his raindeer food etc and give him his bath!! As mum is always busy Xmas eve!!! Thanks fr the greT ideas

What a great idea, xmas eve hampers. Unfortunately i wonder if my boys are a little too old (10&12) however this will be their last christmas before i tell them that Santa is not quite what they thought he was:( so maybe i should make their last Santa christmas really memorable with a hamper. We already have the tradition of them getting one present on christmas eve and new PJs but a small hamper seems like a really sweet idea.

  • queenb i think its a lovely idea to make it memorable for your boys.
my kids are younger and ive been doing hampers for the last 2 years and when i ask them what they got for last xmas they havent a clue (after spending a fortune on them ) but they remember everything from their hampers, from both years :)

my eldest will be almost 5 and almost 4 and in our hamper this year they will be
    new pjs
    slippersocks
new character towels (last year it was shaped pillows for their beds and the year before was a charcter fleece)
    showergels and bubblebath
new xmas mugs for snowman soup
    some sweets of some kind
    reindeer dust and torches
santas plate, cup and carrot for rudolph
    a note from santa
    and a xmas story

the last couple of years ive added a magic key as we have no fireplace but we are moving on wednesday and have a fireplace so that tradition isnt needed any more

ours is basically a 'have a bath and get ready for bed' hamper to help them wind down from the excitement of the big event, the following day!

we always go to shop on xmas eve (helps teh kids burn off some energy) my husband always 'forgets' something and has to run back home to get it. when we all return from shop the hamper has magically appeared ;) cant beat the look on there faces!
