Radio controlled car (try woolies, don't pay too much for a car while he's learning).
Or of course a bike if he doesn't have one.0 -
what's your budget?
i'm planning on getting my daughter one of those 10ft trampolines for her birthday/xmas this year, i figure it'll be a long term investment and give her (and me) lots of exercise
if he likes football, how about a kit of his (or dads) favourtite football team - might be able to get one off ebay? or one of those football on a string things that he can practice kicking with
has he got a bike/skates/scooter?
not very good on boys i'm afraid but i'm sure someone else will come up with some good suggestions0 -
Lego?
Train set?
Theres a great air hockey table - 4 foot reduced in argos at the moment if you have the space, my 5 year old loves itAlways on the hunt for a bargain0 -
Hi wendyh i got my 5 year old son the power rangers mission training set for xmas was 19.99 in argos but woolies have it in sale at 9.99!! he loves it you get gloves, mask an inflatable target and a training dvd it keeps him entertained for hours!!! It teaches them the power ranger moves!!! add this with a power ranger dress up outfit or morpher and i'm sure he'll love it!!!0

got oscar who's 4, a drum kit, it's actually a big success! He also loves anything power rangers, and doctor who.
We bought him a tardis playset and some characters to play in it, but then he really does love doctor who!
He got a micro scooter for Christmas, likes that.:rudolf:0 -
Stationery. When you're 5 a new set of crayons/felt pens is always a treat. I always add a pencil case and a drawing pad.0

This is great, and can be used for all ages (a bit big though!), but I have a 3 year old and a 6 year old that havnt stopped yet since Christmas day: http://www.nurseryandtoys.com/invt/27259&bklist=0

Building/contruction toy, Lego already suggested but also Knex (various starter kits around), Geomag (half price sets in discount Bookshop at the moment), if he already has a wooden train track decent add ons like bridges etc. Something he will play with for years.0

My 5.5 year olds' favourite christmas presents were the two big Transformers he got (Optimus Prime and Megatron) - he loves them.
They have immediate 'play value', but also it makes him stop and think when he wants to transform them (fine motor skills have improved drastically - would you believe it's even helped his handwriting - I would never have thought of transformers as educational toys before, lol). They're also really well made - withstanding our 3 year old and 10 month old too.
Other longstanding favourites are wooden railway, toy cars (especially the Hotwheels playsets) and anything Thomas. Oh, and he got a metal detector (only a £10 one) for his birthday and it kept him busy all summer in the garden.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0
