Where does the money come from? Where does it go?

Just been reading about how Dec sales weren't the disaster retailers were fearing...in fact, quite buoyant. Can anyone tell me WHO has the money to go shopping???..or at least, so much and so often?? The Dead Sea Scrolls have undergone less scrutiny than my finances and yet I am £10k in debt. (No, I don't go on holiday...last was 4 years ago and in UK, and I drive an L-reg!!)

I guess the people who earn more than average, or who are careful with their money and save up to go shopping at Xmas.
I spent £200 on Xmas presents, and don't spend most of the rest of the year, so they had that extra from me. :rolleyes:Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

(End 2021) - £131,215.25 DID IT!!!

It'd be interesting to know what percentage of it was done on plastic my guess is most of it.0

Very true, and I used to be one of them.
The money that we spent on pressies this Xmas all came from our hard earned wages and you know what, it felt so much better doing it that way! Weird, no?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

My thoughts exactly.. I think it'd be fairly safe to presume that most of the consumer spending was done on credit.... and that those people are going to be feeling the pinch right about now..Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

I think I spent around £130 on the sales, unlike previous years I only bought things that I needed and that were a good bargain. I mainly bought jeans, trousers and a few jumpers but I hadn't bought myself anything since the beginning of October so I guess I saved up for it. Didn't put any of it on credit cards either, it all came out of my bank account.I :heart2: saving money0

Sorry I should've also put that all our christmas spending was budgeted for and came out of our wages so no credit or plastic hangover for us!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

All my xmas spending was done on a credit card.......... just so I got cashback and another few more weeks interest on the money in my savings account.
I am probably still paying for Christmas 2005 though.....Saving for an early retirement!0 -
When the sale starts I always say "Where do people get the money from". Probably yes it's the old credit card bouncing back into the shops.
I wasn't one of them this year, thank god:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
Definitely a huge amount is plastic
Even people sale shopping spend £100 a go and stick it on plastic from what I've seenNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
