Evening,
Three years and 8 months into debt repayments and next friday is my last payment for my HSBC loan, its my last one to pay off and then i can move on. Things have been pretty tight for us as a family since our son being born and my DW giving up work to look after him full time has made it harder but i haven't given up on my mission to be debt free and provide a better future for my family.
Although i don't post much on here i read a lot of the other posts and have found tremendous inspiration to keep my morale going in the various story's and how people who post here try to help each other.
My brother who lives quite far away is visiting us for the weekend, he is doing well for himself and treated us to lunch out at a Nandos, not a big deal for most but it was the first meal out me and the family have had for quite a while and i just thought how nice it will be to be able to do that every now and then and not have to worry so much about getting through the month.
Its been a long roller-coaster journey for me, from 'lightbulb' moment to now. I will never get into debt again or be at the mercy of the banks, nor will i let money rule my life and make me miserable as it has done.
Thanks a lot to everyone who uses this forum. your ace

And once you are debt free, build up your emergency savings- ie take the money you were slamming your debts with and put it into a Cash Isa if you pay tax. Of course, as you have worked so hard you can now deduct a few quid for a small treat for the family once or twice per month such as the nandos or a take out etc.
Congratulations on your hard work, and give yourself a big pat on the back!!!0 -
