Advertise a fake Job, charge £44 for a non existent CRB check .
    Some people have brilliant minds...

Well sod it, I'm going to stop looking for a job now and just advertise one with pay your own CRB, I'll rake it in lol!!

I just cannot justify paying out to try and get a job when the whole reason I am looking for a job is because I have no money.

The majority of the time it is a genuine job advertisement but my advice would be research the employer thoroughly prior to applying and forking out for the CRB

With some vacancies attracting 5000 applicants, thats £220,000 !
life changing money and as you are not allowed to share the information with those checked then they have no way of knowing you have done it AND the job may never exist, who would ever know.
    Its an immaculate scam.

  • For my care assistant job I had to pay £60 for my CRB but I didn't have to give them the money until I had received confirmation that I had got the job. If you're applying for a similar job it seems quite a lot of them make you pay for your own CRB and will refund the money at a later date due to high staff turnover (and I can't talk, the company I'm working for is so disorganised and rubbish that I'm leaving after a month). Also, a lot of these companies offer you the job on the spot at interview which may be why they're asking for the cheque at interview but be careful.

My company will refund CRB money after you've been there for 6 months but you have to remember to ask for it.

Most of the adverts I see which require CRB checks will state "cost will be met by the employee with the cost deducted from first wage" - given they see your CV & qualifications prior to interview it's not outwith possibility that they'll have a good idea if you're suitable beforehand so will interview minimal numbers & only do a check for the person they're most interested in.

Performing the check ahead of the interview seems a bit bizzare to me unless it's "hey, you start tomorrow" style, however someone may correct this, surely if you're CRB checked and you've paid for said check you can demand to be given the paperwork showing such, which could prove handy in the future.
They can't do the check prior to interview, they have no right to do a CRB check before they have offered you the job. Also you do get sent your own copy of the Disclosure, but the employer cannot give you or show you their copy, even if they have more information on their copy than you have on yours. The confidentiality is meant to be very tight.

Even if they did pass on their copy of the Disclosure, a new employer would still have to do their own check, because the check is carried out for the employer, and is not portable or transferrable.

Nice try, but I think you would get found out fairly soon. I for one would not give YOU a personal cheque for a CRB: I'd expect it to be made out either to the CRB or to the Umbrella Body you're using. Individuals can't just set themselves up as employers and make use of the service: you have to use an Umbrella Body. You can't ask for a batch of forms to be sent to you: you have to get them through the Umbrella Body. So, no form, no cheque.

I seriously doubt that any employer is making money this way!

It is a care assistant job I'm going for too - can you give me any tips about how I might be able to tell if the company's any good to work for?

Thanks for all the replies everyone :)

How much travelling time is allowed between calls? Am I paid for travel time between calls? Do you pay mileage? How much notice do I normally get for each day's calls?

More and more non nhs employers are requiring applicants to meet the costs of their own disclosure - I have not applied for a number of these for that reason. I simply cannot afford it!

Nor me!! That's not far off a week's JSA. It's really taking the P*** in my opinion.

Some companies pay mileage, & some don't if they don't then you have to claim from government. As for traveling times you will be lucky if they give you 5mins between calls, if like the company I currently work for, then no time is given . It's so the co-ordinators can fit more calls in between allotted times. And you will not be paid for traveling time.
Not sure what you mean , by notice for each day's calls?

You don't claim the mileage from the government (HMRC) you claim tax relief on the mileage.
