You could always do some voluntary work in the meantime to update your CV, if your main role used to be administrative or secretarial then look for voluntary work using those skills. That should give you a better chance of gaining an interview for paid jobs, satisfies JSA that you are attempting to improve your chances of finding work and gets you back into 'work mode'.
