Questions about supermarket coupons

Hi all,
Hi all, I'm a newbie to coupons, can I ask a few questions please?
1) Does anyone know Tesco's official policy on accepting coupons from other stores?
2) also their policy on accepting coupons for items not purchased?
3) how often have people had their self scan tills opened up?
4) does anyone know the logic the Tesco self scan / checkouts use when determining when to call over the SA?
just for some background, I broke my coupon virginity (oo-er) today by scanning a 30p voucher from Somerfield's mag for 2 bottles of pepsi worth 78p, and the SA was called over.

Just my personal opinion but I don't agree with using other shops coupons unless Tesco or whoever say they will accept them. I do use coupons but only ones that I know are redeemable. I would feel that i was obtaining goods by deception if I tried to use coupons that i know can't be redeemed.
The Tesco I use will accept coupons for unpurchased goods, usually up to about 33% of total shop.
I don't use the self scans, think you have more chance of legitimate coupon acceptance at a normal till.0 -

I'll try and answer from my experience
1) It depends on the locality of the competition but round here they accept total spend coupons for Sainsburys
2)I don't have a problem with using any coupons at a manned till as long as Tesco stock the item and I only use 5 different ones
3)I don't use self scans very often and I haven't abused them. Any money off coupon over 50p requires an SA to authorise at our store. I haven't had a self scan machine opened
4)There doesn't appear to be any logic regarding SA's.There is a forgotten, nay almost forbidden word which means more to me than any other. That word is England.

never had a self scan openned. But it will ask operator to authorise the coupon if you use too many.
Every Tesco is different - best to ask Cashier if they would accept any coupons when you go through the till.
mine used to take any coupons as long as they stock the product but now they accept half your bill if every coupon is different. i.e 1 for heinz, 1 for walls etc etc
Oh and if can vary from cashier to cashier - just take some coupons and try it. Sainsburys £3 off a £30 spend are accepted at tesco, but not ones for say Heinz which say redeem only in Sainsburys. Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -

:T Congrats on losing your coupon virginity :T :T
My experience is that it's all trial and error, mostly positive though. I just don't blush or feel daft or take it personally if the coupons aren't accepted
Wishing you many happy coupon orgasms~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I used to use the SS till, when I first started using coupons and was too afraid to hand them over. But then it started to ask for assistance after a couple of pounds of coupons.
I now go to the normal till and take pot luck. Usually try the young men, or someone who looks new. Most of the middleage women are monsters and wont take any. The training in most Tesco's seems quite hit and miss. Some assistants will take loads and other wont.
Just keep trying and always smile and be polite, I find this always helps. I also shop little and often which helps if one shop is full priced the next one might be a bargain.
Good luck.Amazon Sellers Club Member Number 52

Thank you for your email.
I sincerely apologise for the delay in responding to your query. I would like to explain that any coupons, which display the Tesco logo, are Tesco specific. We only accept these if the products referred to on the coupons are purchased. This is because we negotiate savings with our suppliers on the condition that these actual products will be purchased.
With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. The coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products. This also applies to coupons printed from the Internet. These will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager. I hope this explains our policy for coupons.
We would like to ask you a few questions about the recent e-mail communication you or someone in your household has had with a representative from Tesco. If you would like to participate in this survey please complete the attached.
Thank you for your co-operation.
If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us at customer.service@tesco.co.uk quoting TES2910777X.
Kind Regards
