Mobile Phone contract with bad credit history

Hi All

I got into a little bit of financial trouble a few years back (not all my fault, but regardless it was all in my name), subsequently I did a Debt Relief Order (finished in June '11) and as a result I'll find it very difficult to obtain any credit (which doesn't bother me too much) although I would like to switch networks as Virgin Mobile's signal and customer services are pants. I want to stay on contract as it's better value for money and it helps build up my credit history.

I wanted to know whether anyone knew of any networks that can look at my current financial status rather than just declining based on the DRO or whether there are networks with lower credit scoring needs than others?

Any Help Much Appreciated...

Firstly, give it another month or so and then clean up your credit files. This will give you a better chance of credit in the future.

If you search the forum there are several similar threads for post BR mobile contracts. I think the main advice is to get a SIM only deal first and wait to be offered an upgrade, but I forget who is recommended as the best to go with.

Just do a forum search for 'mobile contract' and have a browse through the results, there's loads of suggestions.

  • I think Vodafone don't seem to care what type of credit history people have - I have had numerous clients that have had numerous Vodafone contracts that have defaulted, they have not paid it and then applied for another contract and got that and defaulted so the cycle continues.

None of those above had gone bankrupt but they did have CCJ's etc.

Obviously it is up to you to do your own research so please don't blame me if they won't take you on.

I think a good suggestion are the sim only deals although you do have to be credit checked for these but it is not as strict as they are only 30 day rolling contracts so no great loss if you default - you can get some pretty good deals on these.

Unfortunately that can be the difference between passing and failing a credit check. BR is viewed far more stringently than CCJs.

Having said that, I think Vodafone are one of the ones BRs have positive experiences with as a forum search will show one way or the other.
