Pure Soaping Agents?

We're in the process of wshing our sofa covers which are made of fabric. The care label says that we shouldn't use a product with bleach or powders containing optical brightening agents. It recommends using pure soaping agents such as Lux or Dreft but I can't find these anywhere.

Any suggestiongs on where I can find Dreft or Lux or similar either online or on the high street?

I've found this but it says it's for twin tubs, we have an automatic.

Thanks, Home Bargains seem to stock that and I'm going near one tomorrow, I'll check it out.

I recently bought pure soap flakes from a large Boots to wash my waterproof jacket in. However, you cannot use them in an automatic washing machine as they bubble up too much. Hand wash or I think maybe twin tub. As far as I know you can't use any soap flakes in an automatic. Although I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong x

Going by that, I'd say it would be ok to use something like Ariel Colour as that won't have bleach or optical brightening agents.

None of the washing liquids or gels contain bleach - they can't, as bleach would not be stable in a liquid. That is why liquids never clean as well as powder. So you can always use a liquid where bleach is a no-no. If you choose a liquid such as Ecover, then it will also not contain optical brighteners.

Thansk for all the helpful replies, much appreciated. I picked up a copy of Granny's soap flakes that SpikyHedgehog linked to above yesterday and washed some of them today, it did make a difference but there is still the odd mark on it which should come off with some elbow grease. Thanks for the tip about Ariel colour and the liquids, we may try them if we need to do it again in future.

For anyone who might be interested, there were instructions on the packaging on how to use the flakes in an automatic machine. You had to dissolve them in hot water and pour it into the powder drawer as it was filling with water,
