lost my P60 in the street - should I be worried?

I was walking down the street yesterday with my P60 yesterday, and it must've fallen out. Retraced all my steps (I only walked about 10 minutes down the road) but it's nowhere to be found :(. I'm hoping someone just chucked it in the bin, or it got churned up in all this rain...but oh well...

Should I be worried about identity fraud etc, and can I do anything to mitigate that risk?

I know the P60 has my name, date of birth, national insurance number, address etc. The address on the P60 is just a place I've been in for less than a year; I have no banks/credit registered here. Can a P60 be used as proof of address to get credit?

It certainly can be used as a form of ID. It also gives anyone wanting to steal your ID all the info they need.

Is it worth giving the local Police station a call (non-emergency number obviously). You never know, some kind soul may have handed it in. I dropped all my credit cards in the street once and they were handed in. Fortunately it was only about 75 yards from the Police station which made it easy for somebody to do the decent thing.

yep, may try that... that's the luck the gf gets; lose a purse on the bus and someone hands it in at a police station.... I on the other hand get my bag stolen from my gym locker by a fellow member. funny old world

  • I would call the police not only to find out if someone's handed it in but if you need to do anything now to prevent fraud.

That would give the police a bit of a laugh, brighten their day at least.

Why? They have an identity fraud department and there might be something the OP can do if only to register it.
