didn't realise they did 4 chicken fillets for £1 though- that's worth knowing! Are they frozen fillets?

Yes! Battered, breaded, southern fried, garlic and herb. Mr.Kitty lives off them so we buy loads, so much better than ASDA goujons and things.
Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt! :D:D
  • Have you tried Ocado? They are not as dear as you might think and I think (although I am not 100% sure) that they promise to deliver up to the second floor - A freind of my Mum's was very ill and lived on the second floor with not lift and they delivered to her no problem. You could give them a ring, but in my opinion they have the best home delivery customer service of any of the online delivery shops, Asda being the worst, with Tesco close to Asda.

It's worth an ask and there are codes around for 10 - 15% off your first shop! Plus if you live alone you can buy things like 1 sausage or 150g minced beef, or one chicken breast without having to pay more per kg than for a larger amount as they offer a weighed out butcher service - I find this really helpful.

Good luck - hope you are feeling better soon.

Good Q i've wondered the same since moving into my 2nd floor apartment (same situ, no lift, secure closing doors) I have a two year old so can't very well live her in the house alone whilst bringing shopping up and down but all the same couldn't carry much taking her up and down!

    Thanks this thread has helped!

Jane: I hadn't considered Ocado as we don't have one near us, so I just checked their website and they don't deliver here yet. Thanks for the suggestion, however.

Swimsink: good luck- my grandson is just 3 and I know how you feel!

Am going to try a Sainsbury's delivery this week, will let you know how it goes. Thank you all for the support.

    reporting back as promised- success!

    Well done Sainsburys.

I ordered 2 boxes' worth, came to just under £50, but enough to replenish my store cupboard/freezer and to indulge in some batch cooking and freezing sufficient to last me the month. The driver was great, brought the boxes to the door, didn't mention anything about the extra flights, and was really helpful. Don't know if the fact he only had to make one journey up the stairs helped, or what! Deliberately didn't include any large bottles of juice or fizzy drinks, as I was working on the 'what I needed to keep me alive' basis (and it won't hurt to go without fizzy juice if I have to!) but that's a huge help. Might try a slightly bigger shop next month- but that will do for now, and I'll be sticking with Sainsburys for the time being.

    Hope this helps others, too.

thats good to know as i am on a 1st floor flat and have no car

i have only ever had 2 online deliveries.
1 - ocado and the guy just dumped the bags at my feet when i opened the security door on the ground floor
2 - tesco guy carried the stuff up the stairs for me but did it very reluctantly and was standing over me tapping hs foot while i got the bags out of the boxes.

both rather put me off ordering online but i might try sainsburys next as it is useful when i need things like bottles of drink, canned food etc

My neighbour lives above me on the second floor and has no problems from Asda and Iceland. Perhaps it is driver's discretion. I've also not had problems with Tesco when I used my family holiday appartment which is second floor.

One day I had to have a delivery from Ocado.
I live on the 12th floor of a block of flats, but we have a lift.
I always wait for them at the door before the lift arrive at my floor, but that time I heard the doors of the lift opening, then nothing. When I had a look, my groceries were in the lift but no trace of the driver.
Then I heard someone sounding on the verge of collapsing going up the stairs. It was the driver, all red faced, sweaty and out of breath.
When I enquired why, he said he was claustrophobic and would not take the lift even if his life depended on it, so every time he had to deliver in a high rise he was just sending the groceries up in the lift and was taking the stairs himself. :rotfl:
So, it must be at the discretion of the driver then.:)

Talking about customer services, last time I used Sainsburys, I had to call nearly every week to their customer services about items missing, last time I used them I had 1 entire bag of groceries missing. As with Tesco, everything will be fine until you have a problem, then the very best of luck to you. (At least it was like that in my area).

On the other hand, I just had a call from someone at Ocado who apologised to me because I had 3 items missing and/or substituted in my soon to come delivery today.
And if the driver is late, he will call you and tell you about it, if they have a problem and you have to rebook your deliveries, they always apologise and you are likely to find a bonus bottle of wine as an apology in your next delivery, and once (I think it was when there was so much snow), I had to rebook and had £20 off my groceries on my next order.

Ocado might be a bit dearer than other stores, but only for the efforts made to give a superior customer service they are worth every penny.

We live on the 6th floor (with a lift) Only had home delivery twice.

Once was with Sainsbury's who refused flatly to bring it past the main entrance to the flats despite the lift being available. Unfortunately for me I had booked expecting delivery to the door and I was at work leaving my othe rhalf at home to deal with the delivery. I was a bit miffed when he range me later to say they hasd left it all downstairs (they did courteously wait til he got downstairs ...he is blind in one eye and can't walk far really but then let him struggle upstairs in the lift on his own)

The second was last night with Tesco...a hundred percent better experience. The driver buzzed and I asked if they wanted me to go downstairs to help. "not at all. I will bring it up" they bought the shopping up no questions asked and also asked if I needed it taking into the flat. Very helpful delivery driver. I was impressed and emailed Tesco to say
