One of the reviews on amazon suggests they bought one with only 2 months available on the adoption.

I purchased one of these about a month back as a stocking filler, there is a "register by date" on the back of the packaging and the one I got has untill January 2013 so it will still be vaild if its being given as a future gift. Hope this helps
