My oven has died, and the door has fallen and smashed.
So i need to buy another oven, my hob is ok, so i just need a new electric oven, i've just looked at comet and they say they have built in ovens and built under ovens.................they both look the same to me, is there any difference?
Also i have a single oven, with a grill, and underneath that i've got a plynth that matches the cupboards, can i remove this plynth and put a double oven in the cupboard, or do i have to keep to the size i have now.
thanks

Seems size is the difference

Have you measured the opening, with and without the plinth? Is there anything behind the plinth such as a ledge or shelf
If you have any local kichen fitters who offer free estimates, maybe they can give you an accurate size0 -
Hi
thanks for the information about the size,
i've not measured it yet, waiting for hubby to get back and then we'll remove the oven and i'll know what's behind it, to me it looks like the oven is just on a ledge and then there is a piece of wood a couple of inches deep.
btw thanks for the help with the printer, i'm really pleased with it.0 -
Just wondered if the plinth is in front of the base of the unit, which could be raised off the floor, so removing it would not give much extra room.
Hope it goes well0 -

Hi
hubbys says it's not the plynth, that's the long bit that runs underneath...................doh
as you can see i have that extra piece of wood above the plynth, could i remove that and get a bit of a bigger oven?
thanks0 -
Oven should be a standard size so maybe the extra bit of wood covers hides a hole, if it were me, I would want to know if the kitchen will fall down if the piece of wood is removed
Also, measure the oven you have and check what is available in that size
The measurements for this built in double oven
http://www.electricshop.com/built-in-double-ovens/belling-bi90fp-built-in-electric-double-oven-in-white/invt/bi90fpwh/?adnetwork=af&utm_source=webgains&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=3167&lot=wg
Are Dimensions: 885 x 555 x 550mm (H x W x D)
For this single oven
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/hoover-hos8077x-built-in-electric-single-oven-stainless-steel-07677801-pdt.html?srcid=369&xtor=AL-1-[Awin]
The measurements are
Dimensions
Height: 595 mm
Width: 595 mm
Depth: 550 mm Recess dimensions
Height: 580 mm
Width: 560 mm
Depth: 550 mm
So with the difference between single and double being quite big, it is probably easy to tell if a double oven will install0 -
if you can provide the size of your oven housing i may be able to point you a few good models as for comet i would shop round were currently updating our kitchen at home an looked at many places that are alot cheaper then comet.
edit noticed you put them before message.....doh!"MSE Money saving challenges..8/12/13 3,500 saved so far :j" p.s if i been helpfully please leave me a thank you but seek official advice at all times from a pro0 -
Thanks for those replies, we've taken the oven out, and we've removed the piece of wood from the front, so it seems we can get a bigger oven,
now how do we measure it.
this is the oven we've taken out.

this time i'd like one that has a seperate grill, if that's possible, can't see a double oven fitting in.
thanks0 -

Looking at double ovens it seems a height of 890mm is needed
You could ask them here as they would know what the options are
