    before the job were you claiming JSA?

    when you started your job did you have a P45 from the DWP or did you fill in a P46
    if you filled in a P46 which box did you tick

    can you check eack payslip and say what the taxcode is?
    normally it would be 747L
  • i was on jsa before employment started on may 3rd 2011

    my tax code has been 47L right from the start, i joined on weekly pay now paid monthly salary

    and thanks

    you should have been given a P45 by the DWP as JSA is a taxable benefit

    in any event you need to contact (phone) HMRC and explain the situation
    you need to be on a 747L taxcode

    no i didnt get one

    no 45

    With no P45 handed in, it's impossible that the company would have just used a 47L tax code. Can you look again closely - are you sure it's not 747L as opposed to 47L? Sounds like too much of a coincidence.

    Did you complete a P46 and if you did what box did you tick?

    Give us the figures from your payslip so it can be checked.
  • i may have lost the p45 from the job centre when i signed off anyway cant find it, i been paid today so it was as follows

    salary = £2083
    tax = £408.80
    NI = £177.76

    take home money = £1496.77 for month

    my gross to date is £7662.77
    My tax to date is £1492.60

    tax code is 47L

    thanks for the help guys appreciate this am hoping to get a rebate soon what you think

    Certainly correct for a 47L tax code.

    You need to get onto HMRC if you have received no P2 coding notice to explain why it's 47L.
