Hi all
Just wonder if someone can help.
After finally getting on top of my debts, I have started a DMP with Payplan and I am 2 months into it.
At the time, Payplan advised me to open a new account as I have a loan with Natwest and RBS were my main bank.
I did that earlier this year and have had hassle free banking with Cooperative since.
I filled in the Direct Debit transfer form with co-op and they arrnaged to get everything changed over and things have been going great.
Until a few days ago I recieved a letter from RBS to my old address saying to call them. So I did and I wish I hadnt.
They said that one of my Direct Debits had remained uncancelled and because of my wages and no other funds going into my bank, my bank has fallen overdrawn and for the pleasure, they have been charging me £6 a day since then!!!
So I now have a bill to RBS for £638.
I appealed to their better nature and even the guy on the phone said that he could see I had not been using the account but there was nothing he could do.
I have made them an offer of £100 to be the end of it, but they have refused, stating they want the full balance.
What can I do.. I am at my wits end.
I thought now I have started on a DMP and things were going good, this would be the end of my worries - but now I get this.

Is all of this the £638 due to the £6/day charges (which would be three months worth)?0

Yes I believe it is, although I have asked me to send me a statement showing the breakdown of these figures0

I don't think I understand this then. If the charges arose from a non-payment of DD then some of it must be either the amount which you 'borrowed' to cover the payment, or a returned item fee in which case how did the DD get paid that month? In any case I don't think it changes much, and I can't see any fault on NatWest's part so far (although we don't know the breakdown).
What it does tell us is that if you have more than one bank accout you either need to close the ones you don't intent to use, or if you want them to stay open (which can be handy) then you need to be checking them along with all of your other accounts very regularly.0
