Got my fingers crossed and waiting to hear...

I went for an interview on Tuesday which went well and was asked to come back today and do a trial shift/working interview (in a hotel).
It's just for a room attendant or a chamber maid in old money lol
If I get this I would perhaps need to take on some cleaning jobs to top up my money as the hours on offer aren't enough but everything else about it suits really well.
Just waiting to hear now...

I nearly applied for a similar hotel position but I was put off by one thing- do you have to completely clean a room in a certain amount of time? I'm not really a housework pro and doubt I could completely change a bed and blitz a bathroom in 5 minutes (I saw a programme where Thai hotel workers had an extremely small amount of time to clean rooms!) and it got me worried I'd be really bad at the job! Haha, good luck with your trial

Good luck; hope it's not just the hotel's way of getting rooms cleaned for free.
Have you tried all your local pubs, clubs, etc. and/or maybe even think about being a Betterware or Avon rep i.e. where you don't have to pay anything upfront (unlike Kleeneezee or Virgin Vee).
It's also worth checking out the 'Up Your Income' section of this forum (if you haven't already) and hopefully you'll find something useful there.Make the most of everything in life (especially Avon

A few years ago I was temping and got offered a job at a posh hotel cleaning rooms. I did exactly one day of it when thankfully the temp agency pulled me out because another job had cropped up that was more suited to my skills. And wow, was I glad. We had a really short amount of time to do each room- not even enough to vacuum, never mind change the beds. Added to that we worked in teams reporting to head cleaners and they were all dragons. The sheets had to be cornered *exactly* and they had a set height from the floor that the duvet had to drape. They wouldn't even let us stop for a drink of water!
Good luck with the trial, I hope you get better employers

Been there, done that. Would never do it again!! I'm glad you share my views as I was only 19 at the time and my mother put my moans & frustrations down to just being 'too lazy'. At least I know now I wasn't the only one to struggle with it!
I found the task at hand near impossible - and for the ones that did do everything on time, I was convinced they HAD to be cutting corners somewhere.
The final straw was concerning a tip. A £5 note was left on one of the guest's unmade beds - given my complete honesty, I placed it on their dresser and proceeded to make the bed. Next day when I went to clean the room, it was back on the bed. How kind I thought, what a generous tip - but for the avoidance of doubt I left it on the dresser again to be sure they weren't testing me! I cleaned their room after they'd checked out and there was the money left on the bed again, so it had definitely been for me
was very pleased!
Still unsure, I mentioned it to my $£*("$&* of a manager, who yoinked it right off me and stuck it in the tips jar. Was a bit miffed as I was the only one cleaning that room, but what the hell I thought, don't be so greedy
That was before I found out the tips were divided once a year...in December. Suffering these first 3 weeks in August, I really struggled to see myself still there in December (tbh I think that's why they made those rules!). Furious. That's where honesty gets you!
But I digress. Best of luck for your work trial
I personally could never do it again! 0 -
You've all scared me away from applying for any such position  Lol, I'm applying for retail/officey jobs mainly but this sounded tempting as a temporary stop gap.. maybe not :P0

Oh no I'm sorry haha!!
don't let us put you off, a stopgap is a stopgap, I applied for a cleaning role in a bar last month thinking I was going to be a while getting another job... That said, I'd still rather clean a bar or an office than hotel rooms!! You get some right grimey folk who just rip it, knowing they don't have to clean up after themselves
even now when I visit a hotel, I make sure I put all my rubbish in the bin, hang the towels up properly (unless I want them changed) and do my best to make the bed etc, just making their lives a bit easier
but by all means go for it in the short term
just wouldn't be me again!! 0 -
I got the job and I'll be starting on Tuesday. New chapter for me.
It's only a small hotel/guest house 15 rooms plus public areas so hopefully not as scary as some of you describe!0 -
Well done. Time to celebrate.0
