in Cutting tax
Someone recently noticed my partners tax code was wrong and it has been for nearly 2 years, it was BR so i called the tax office and they have now changed it. What happens now...does my partner have to fill out a P46 still and how does he claim his tax back? any info will be appreciated, thank you

You have given limited information but assuming your partner has one job and is under 65 then he would have a tax free personal allowance of 7475 giving a standard code of 747L. If this is the code he has received your partner is due quite a bit of tax back. For 2011/12 this should be paid back by his employer during this tax year.
For earlier years the form you need is an R40 which you complete and return to his/her tax office.0 -

The R40 form is really for those applying for a rebate of tax deducted from savings and investments which doesn't apply here.
For earlier years you should really just write to HMRC saying that you have overpaid tax due to being on a BR tax code. Enclose any P45/P60 (take a photocopy first but send original) for the relevant tax year.0
