When will my default disapear from my file?

I had an HSBC credit card and loan which defaulted in Jan 2001 to something called "shakesphere's solicitors" who i had one of those yellow cards with where i paid off money at the post office (sparodically, not keeping to a payment plan) I paid the lot off in 1 lump sum in Jan 2004.

So when will this arrears leave my file? The end of this month, or in Jan 2010?

Does my non-payment of the arrears stay on my file? or is this all wiped off because the debt is cleared and 6 years have passed since it was defaulted?

I have had an immaculate credit history for the past 3 years on 2 loans and a CC

Thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it should be 2010, the default is only cleared 6 years after setlement. (sp)
I am in the same boat :(

I was always under the impression that it was 6 yrs from the default.

I have never checked but was always given this information when I asked at the credit ref agency.

I am pretty sure from advise I have been given that it is six years from the date it was registered. Not 6 years from the date it was cleared.

I think you will find that it should disappear January 2007. Best to wait 2 or 3 months though and then get a copy of your credit file to make sure it's gone. Sometimes they are slow in updating.

It's 6 years after the date of deafult regardless of whether or not it has been paid in full.

yea its 6 years from date of default. and TAG is correct. it can take them a few month to update your file. a few of them are slow with such things.

I paid off my motorbike hp in november it still shows owing 5k or something. going to give it to feb 3 month to show closed then launch a dispute with equifax
