in Cutting tax
I have a lot of debts so have done a lot of overtime this month, and managed to get a £333 bonus too,
But just got my pay slip today and my heart sank -

Is that tax too high? I genuinely have no idea about this kind of thing.
Any help appreciated.

your NI seems about right
your student loan seems about right
your tax seems very high
however you don't show us the 'cumulative to date figures' so maybe you were underpaying tax previously
has you taxcode changed this month?0 -
Sorry here are the accums from the latest wage slip. I started here in may and up until this month my tax code was ''747l m1'' but this month it has reverted to 747L.
''Accumulations

assuming the cumulative figures are for August then the tax seems correct in relation to the income
so somewhere you underpaid tax in april, may, june or july to the tune of about £200
so we would need to know the details for april, may, june, july to see what happened here0 -
I started this job in may...what would you need to see? The total before tax and tax paid for each month?0
-
what did you do in april?
for each month
-gross pay

April - I was employed by another company and on my final payslip from them had my tax refunded that I had paid so far,
the total pay to date was 1701 and tax paid 0.0 -
all explained
in April you should have paid 215 in tax approx
they have now caught up and you are now up-to-date0 -
Ah ok, this does make sense the only thing I am confused by is I did not earn 1701.28 in april/may in my past employment..i worked at a cinema and we were paid using a system where we were paid on the 23rd of each month and the weeks paid were for a specific block from the past..typically from the month before..but during april and may i definitely didnt earn 1703 in total it was more like 800..i guess this is something to take up with them?0
-
tax will be based on what and when you were paid.
so if you were paid in april then that counts as april wages for tax purposes
did you receive a P45 from that employment?0 -
I did yes, the p45 shows total paid to date 1701.28 but this is definitely far too high..and it says tax paid 0!0
