Hair Colour for Wedding Advice needed!

Ok so I have a dark mousey blond hair, which I normally dye a bit lighter blonde.

I had a bit of a DIY hair dying diaster at the start of the year where my hair went a funny ginger colour.

So I admitted defeat and decided it was time I started getting my hair professionally dyed.

I did fancy something different and between my H2B Step son2B and hairdresser went down the sort of red/brown colour. It all looked fantastic till I was it and the colour faded really quickly. Not enough to get rid of all the colour but ended up a real dull red.

I know want to go back to my blonde locks but keep getting comflicting advice on how.

Hairdresser says to do it gradual with highlights and toners.

But my hairdressr for the wedding says the colour will never fade completely until its all grown out and the colour needs to be stripped from my hair.

So really I guess what I'm trying to find out is which is the best way to get rid of the red tinge I have in my dark blonde locks?

My hair doesn't look hidious, its quite blonde but has that red tinge still in it:(

Any advice is gratfully received as its just under 6 months till the big day :(

personally i would never strip hair unless it is really thich and in brill condition as it makes it very straw like

using volumising shampoos opens your hair cuticles so using that and then washing your hair in hot water can help

one of my personal favourites is washing your hair with hot olive oil (as hot as you can handle) and leave it on for 20 mins while u have a good sing song in the shower, worked well to get the redness out of my hair

always wash your hair as hot as possible (please dont burn yourself!!) as will strip some of the colour naturally

there are hair colour removers available - if you try this make sure you use one without peroxide

also try swimmers shampoos which strips chlorine from the hair also works quite well on dye

head and shoulders shampoos are notorious (sp?) for taking dye out of hair

good luck!!!! but remember nothing will work first time so give each a couple of weeks to work before you move one
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5
  • Red hair colour is notorious for losing it's colour quickly bit I love the colour so keep having it done. I lose most of the red colour in about two months so as you still have quite a bit of time until the wedding I would give it some time to wash out some more before doing anything drastic like stripping.

If in another month or so it's not looking great then I would start having some highlights put in to bring it out a bit blonder. I'm really against stripping hair though I think it is really for desperate situations as it will have to grow out completely to get your hair back to a good condition.

I had my hair stripped in May as it was Black and I was bored! I have olive coloured skin and my natural hair colour just seems to make me look washed out. I would agree it needs to be in good condition to have it done, but i had mine stripped and re-coloured in same sitting and was fine, few brittle ends, but just have a trim a week or so after to get rid of those. I wouldnt go for highlights personally, as I dont like the effect , it always looks stripy on me! AND, think about how many lots of highlights you'll have to have to get it back, think would prob work out more expensive to do that than stripped and coloured? Mine cost £80 from my up market salon with strip, colour, conditioning treatment and also cut. I'm now back to being a nice copper colour!

    Hope this helps xx

Ps, my hair is in fab silky condition now also, not brittle or anything, and I'm a GHD addict too!

What is your secret to having gorgeous silky hair? I gave up the GHD's to get my hair back in good condition but use hem for special occasion but hate having not poker straight hair!

  • Rioche 'directions' colours stay in really well, pillarbox red and poppy red lasted months on my (pre lightened) hair however vermillion washed out to orange 3 days later. They are a semi cream rather than a mix up dye and can be removed with a weeks worth of clarifying shampoo.

I stripped years-worth of black hair dye from my hair aby washing it with a handful of washing powder several times a week. Really scrub it into your hair after shampooing then use a luxurious conditioner. It doesn't do much damage but it does make your hands hurt so gloves are advisable. Good luck!

I've heard that Head & Shoulders is great for stripping the colour out of your hair.
