Tax credits grrrrrr

My boyfriend moved in last month so we started a new tax credits claim as a couple. Being in a rush to fill the form in, when they asked for my sons name on his birth certificate, I wrote down his old surname (when i was married) but have since had his name changed back to my maiden name. Now tax credits cant find him on the system. Im worried because as I was having a blonde moment I have given them incorrect information. Am I going to get in trouble?

You're not going to get in trouble but you have probably delayed your claim. Usually when a Tax credit claim includes a child over 3 months Tax Credits try to match them and you up with an existing Child Benefit claim.
If the details you provided don't match up then they will ask you to prove that the child actually exists. You would do that by supplying the childs birth certificate. If you changed the childs name legally then you would probably have to supply those documents too. Tax credits will write out to you directly.
