Hi all just joined this forum after reading all the diff posts for ages. Hv been reading loads about Quidco so just registered on their site. Got a Car Ins quote via LLoyds TSb and it says £120 cashback. So is this right - I take out new policy via Quidco website then I get £120 back - policy only £190 so how does this work?? Seems far too good to be true! If it is then great - need to save as much as poss as now a full time SAHM - cant believe im understanding this right at all! Please advise me thanks Sally

Yes it is, but I found Quidco didnt track after a week so I cancelled the insurance which wasnt valid until a week or slightly more later, others have reports problems too, but not everyone. Also Topcashback also do a similar thing, I use them more now than Quidco.0

Essentially, that's right. The only caution is that the cashback is never 100% guaranteed. If you've visited the insurers website before through another link, then you'll need to clear cookies on your computer to make sure that the transaction is tracked. (My Lloyds home insurance tracked quite quickly but hasn't been paid as yet. Expected next month.)
Also the cashback takes a few months to actually get paid so don't expect a speedy payback. Generally speaking, Quidco is great - especially for larger purchases like insurance. Good luck.

This may explain how to elimate tracking problems and whats a cookie
Firstly can I suggest you download a FREE product called 'Crap cleaner', honest that's what its called.
It's available HERE Just go to the download section on the top of the page, and get the latest version, see the centre of the page its usually marked 'Download from FileHippo.com'. Install the program, the program is safe to use and what it does is clean your internet cache (your web browsers temporary files) and removes them and also more importantly for making a little income online it removes cookies that all these site like Rpoints, Freefivers etc use. This does two things, say you visit Freefivers use a couple of the affiliate links in there like Kelkoo and Pricerunner, these store a cookie on your PC (see explanation of a cookie below). This fine no harm done, but if you want to use another cashback site like Rpoints you may not get credited for using the same links?
Computer terminology
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a packet of information sent by a server to a browser such as internet explorer, or Firefox and then sent back by the browser each time it accesses that server. Cookie are used for the purposes of tracking, and maintaining information such as site preferences and shopping carts.0 -
A cookie is a small text file that a website puts on your computer. For example on this site there is a "remember me" box next to the log in. If you select it it will put a cookie on your computer so next time you visit the website will ask for the content of the cookie and realise who you are and save you having to log back in.
99.9% of cookies are harmless and are simply used to track people but if you run a spyware or adware program it will spot the cookies from Tradedoubler (the people that manage the affiliate schemes that quidco etc use to get paid) as something to be got rid of as it allows them at a very very basic level to see what you are doing.... which is obviously necessary as they need to see where you have come from (quidco) and what you have done (bought a policy)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

so if i were using zonealarm, avg, spybot and adaware would quidco work. any other quidco tips gratefully recieved, or is it worth having a seperate connection/machine for purchases0
-
My version of ZoneAlarm Pro will allow the cookie to be created but deletes it every day when the scan is done so as long as you clicked the link and completed your purchase prior to its scan being done then it wouldnt be a problem... I cannot comment on spybot or adaware as I dont use either of them.
Some affiliate cashback sites do recommend disabling these types of programs temporarily before clicking their link until you complete the transaction to prevent them causing problemsAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Hi
It has to be remembered that affiliate networks i.e. OMG, buy.at, tradedoubler, affiliatewindow, affiliatefuture et al rely on the merchants, in this case Lloyds TSB to confirm sales with them. It is not that Quidco is not tracking it, it can purely be that the merchant has not updated all the sales with the affiliate network. Until this is done, the people running Quidco cannot see that a purchase has been made against the unique identifier they use for you.
It is also very wise to clear cookies because if you are referred by another affiliate via another route previously the commission will go to them in some cases.
Hope that helps some.0 -
Quidco really does work, I have made about £400 through it last year. My Lloyds car insurance did take ages to track - about 6 months - but it was the best policy for me anyway. I guess that is the main thing, to not rely on getting the cashback. Having said that, everything I have done has tracked and mainly really quickly, apart from the car insurance.
Well worth it and adds a bit of excitement to online shopping!
Hope that helps.
