Hi there,
I would appreciate a little help with my situation, my husband and i are trying to tackle our debts.
I already have 2 bank accounts and i use my authorised overdrafts on both ,will this affect my chances of transfering to a new account.????
I have gone over my overdraft limits.
I aim to transfer to another bank so that i can start the process to reclaim my bank charges from First Direct, which are the reason for being in this state (snowball effect!) with charges for going over my limit of £30 each time it soon takes it's toll!!, combined with the fact that we lead a very busy life and cannot track the account as sufficiently as we should have. I do take responsibility for this.
But we need to start somewhere and i'm not sure where!

I shouldn't think it would be too much of a problem. have a look on the budgeting and current account board.
If you do have some doubts you could apply for a citibank account they seem to be accepting anyone! You will still have a debit card and dependant on your cirumstances a cheque card and overdraft although I don't think you probably want an over draft right now. Also make sure you apply via quidco for money back!0 -
check your credit record ... if there's nothing there then it wont affect any a/c application0

You may well be limited by an overdraft facility on the new account - they may not offer you one big enough to absorb the balance of your two existing ones, and worst case scenario - you wont get one at all.
I've looked at transferring my current account a number of times to get a better deal, or for ethical banking and the problem I find is that they want me to transfer everything over to the new account, making sure my salary goes in and all direct debits are transferred. If that's a-ok for you, go for it, but I'm wedded to my current account insofar as it has the best online service I've seen, and I'll take a small hit in the wallet for the convenience (bad moneysaver, I know!).
