Dilemma - Not Wedding Related!

I know this isn't wedding related, but you guys are always so helpful I thought I'd ask you opinion anyway!
I've just been offered an interview for a job I applied for. Interview is next Thursday morning. However, next Thursday I have a very important meeting in my current job - we are currently being taken over by a much bigger organisation, and basically the meeting is about what my role will be within the new organisation. I have spoken to the company that have just offered me an interview, and they can swap the time but not the date.
Thing is I don't know when my meeting is next Thursday - I'm supposed to be in all day anyway, as they are coming to see how we work etc as well as holding individual meetings, and we are going out for lunch with our new bosses.
Obviously if I was to get the new job, it doesn't matter about missing the meeting but if I don't it's going to look really bad to my new bosses...help!!!

Is there any way you could ask to have the interview in the evening after work?
They did say the time was flexible, and if you explain how important it is for you to be in your current job on the date they've selected, hopefully they will be understanding. Good luck0 -
I would like to think that the new employer would look upon your loyalty & reliability to a previous work commitment positively. ie. if you go out of your way not to let your current employer down on a particular day, then that's what they can expect from you, as an employee if you were to work for them.
If not, then a convincing lie to justify rescheduling. I'm not much good at lies, so useless to you regarding any suggestions sorry.
Good Luck x0 -
The company doing the interviewing should definitley appreciate the fact you cannot make the interview during the day. Are you speaking to the personnel dept? would it be worth sending an email and copying in the head of the dept where you hope to work or something. It may be that the personnel dept only know about your dilemma? I know my boss would always go out of his way to meet a good candidate.0

Could you not ask when the people in your current job are arranging the meeting for so you can prepare and have your notes ready and any stats fingures etc to hand and in an easy format. if they say the afternoon ask if you could work from home in the morning as you want to be fully focus on tpreparing without the office phone etc distracting you. best of luck with the interview.:kisses3: Married 29th September 20120 -
Is the new job in the same company?
If so then it's courtesy to let your current ine manage know that you're looking for a new job.
If you've done this already, then you should just be able to explain to them that you want to make sure you make the meeting & the interview, so you need to know the timings.0 -
Company's interviewing new canadates always look at everything about the person they want to hire. Your comment to your current employer will show the you are a committed and dedacaded employee and should work well in your favor.
Explain to them how important your interview is with them but that you have a very important meeting that you must attend and see if you can get it move to before work hours or after. Even a Saturday maybe possible.
If they know you are working then the should be able to work something out. If not then it may not be the company for you. After all you are the one looking for a better place to work.
Best of luck,

I've been to an interview before where they have been really inflexible and given me a time and said that's it. How good is the new job and how pushy is the person who is organising the interview? Can you ask if it's possible to have it 8am? Then you can be late for work and blame it on traffic or a car problem.0

True but you could just say you are late due to a personal reason that you don't want to go into. It's not lying looking for another is personal reason to you.:kisses3: Married 29th September 20120 -
thanks guys, I've managed to get the interview earlier, so shouldn't be late into work. Fingers crossed for Thursday!0
