Loans via Text Message

Can people give me some advice?
I keep getting messages via text saying my loan has been approved - when I haven't applied for any! Is this a scam trying to get me to ring a number (which is probably very expensive!) or are people genuinely using my details to try to get loans out?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

    A scam, just ignore them.

    Hello,

Could you post what the text message actually says, including the "from" number and any numbers it wants you to call. This will help us to guide you further.

It may be that someone has taken out a loan and given them your mobile number by mistake, so don't panic just yet!
  • Sure it says . . . 'Your recent loan application has been approved. Please call City Financial on 01614065911 to sanction your loan quote. Belton'

I've also had ones where they say something like 'Hi Alan' or 'Hi Phil' and then say it has been approved. I rang one of these back once and they were adamant I was a man called Phil something or other, then he told me not to worry it was probably a typo on the mob number. Scam right?

Oh and the from number was some mobile number

You can read about them here

    Sorry, dodgy keyboard, corrected now.
  • Thanks Chalkie99, but the link doesn't work for some reason? I'm guessing this is a fairly standard scam then?
  • It is a scam, I have had a few like that!! Just ignore them =)

  • Chalkie99 - I have now been on that link and I thank you for helping me with that!
  • If you have a BlackBerry, download Mr. Number Blocker from App world and block the number that the texts are sent from. I used to get the same texts from the same companies at least 3 times a day and now they're blocked so I don't receive them anymore :D

City Financial - Not to be confused with Citi financial

It's tripped a few up on here before (although how anyone could fall for a random text message loan is anyones guess).

    Complete scam.

Although anyone being offered a loan from someone claiming to be Citi would know it's a scam anyway, what with them not really existing any more :o
