I might have taken a chance if the blouse was £9. It was £19, which is quite a lot to risk on something I wasn't 100% sure about.

Nothing they say can effect your statutory rights.

I was instore yesterday and very nearly bought a blouse in the sale - but they said it was non-returnable.

Sorry to be a complete thicko - but I thought they could only do this if it was damaged????

I guess it must be ok for them to do this, but I was really disappointed. I was a bit frazzled in the store and really wanted to try it on at home when I had more time - didn't want to risk it if they wouldn't accept a return so I left it. :(

Martin posts lots of guides to shopper's rights, so I thought everyone on mse would know by now!
Shops legally don't have to give you a refund, exchange or credit unless the item is faulty. However if they have a returns policy that does allow you to return goods for exchange/refund/credit note, they have to adhere to it, as it then forms part of the contract. So all they are saying here to you is that their usual policy doesn't apply, so you can only return if faulty

  • M&S Colchester - I believe all children's clothes marked down to £1 although not showing on the tags. I was browsing when a lady came running up and shouted its all coming up as a pound. Quite a lot left, two stands by the instore cafe. Bought some lovely long shorts for DS, top for DD, and two tops for DS - plus two pairs of purple sunglasses the kids begged for and are still wearing now - total £6. Lots of lingerie left, plus clothes on the bottom floor-although it was hard to see through the die hard old lady bargain hunters!
