Wescot Credit Services

I was rudely awoken this morning by a text message on my phone:

"Please call Wescot Credit Services urgently on (0844 number) quoting reference number (xxxxxxx)"

Their address was at the end of the message.

Now I owe £36.66p which has been sitting in the bank waiting for the company I owe it to to take it out as per an agreement. It is still sitting there.

Now is this genuine? I can obviously pay it off right away but I don't want to have to call an 0844 number, off my mobile (which will cost the earth) to find out its nothing.

Anybody had any dealings with this sort of thing before?

That's the problem. I agreed this but the money is still sitting there and now I have this.

It's not worrying me as I have had no contact from them apart from this message and if it is genuine, I can pay it, but I don't want to have to ring an 0844 number to find out.

Would the best thing to do at this moment be to just sit and wait for proper contact from them?

Can you not just ring the people you have the debt with and pay them direct over the phone by debit card?

Or when did this company say there would take the payment out the bank?

I recently received dozens of these calls, until finally there was a real human on the line - transpired they were chasing the debt of another person, totally unknown to me, but with the same surname.

Have a squint at this: http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/08442511034.

Of course, if you know that you DO owe someone some money, best to ring them direct ASAP.

    Good luck. x

Today... This is why I am confused about it all.

Looking on google though, it seems to be a scam

Call the creditor and ask why the payment has not been taken. Whatever the reason, make sure it gets paid. Then ignore the Wescott fishing expedition - the text might not even have been for you, so forget it.

Just posted that exact same link. Seems it is nothing but phishing. I did think it was strange that I hadn't received a letter or any contact but a text message.

Better to be safe than sorry I suppose.

I'll post back if I do get any contact from them as I'll need to know where to go from there.
  • (sorry for bumping this)

    I finally got a reply!

I wonder how many people have fallen for this though. I thought these practices were outlawed

Thanks for the update OP - I got one of these texts yesterday, and I know I don't owe money, so after looking on this site and whocallsme.com, looks like it's a way for Wescot to make money. Bl**dy cheek!

  • I received an automated message on my answerphone today asking me to (what I thought was) "Please telephone Westcott Credit Services" and then a phone number to call. As I've just had two days' annual leave and have mostly been at home on two week days, I was only earlier today complaining to a friend about the number of junk phone calls I've receive. Due to junk phone calls, I have given my BT landline home phone number out to exactly TWO people since getting it a few months ago. The current number is the 2nd landline number I've had since moving into my new flat 2 1/2 years ago, as BT had ignored my very firm initial wishes to be ex-directory (I later found myself listed on the White Pages!). So we're on phone number # 2 , now, and STILL I get junk calls! THANKS A BUNDLE, BT!

As soon as I know it's not one of the two people whose voices I know, I always butt in and ask which company they're calling from (they always seem to start with something other than this info these days), which usually results in the line going dead. If it doesn't, I continue to say my number's ex-directory, so please take it off their system straight away. They always say they will ... but what's the betting?

Anyway ... back to today ... this is the first time the so and so's have left me an answerphone message. What next? Lipstick on my bathroom mirror? I knew it was a scam straight away as I don't owe anybody anything (hooray!). I deleted the message as I had no intention of phoning them, but then thought to Google "Please telephone Westcott Credit Services", which brought me here. So this is my 10 cents worth to say they're leaving answerphone messages now ... and they're definitely a scam.
